SoCal rotary guys beware of "Gary", scumbag who likes to burn people
 

I'm putting this guy on blast because I want to be last person that he burned. His name is "Gary", supposely a 20+ yrs Rotary veteran. He lives in Long Beach and has his ad in Craigslist. He claims to be an expert in Rotary, having tatoo of the rotor on each on his elbows and "Rotary life" on the back of his head. This is the story how he burned me. I'm just really getting back into a Rotary scene again, so I decided to pick up a 1987 TII shell with intention of putting an S5 JDM turboII swap. I ended up picking up a 91 JDM RHD front clip from J&R , in El Monte, which Vinnie, the owner is really cool. It was a complete running front clip (we started up the car and ran it with no smoke). So, with the hope of building a high hp car in mind I called up Garry to have my motor rebuilt. Next day, he took the motor home with him and return the next day with damaged parts that supposely out of my engine. He said the housings and rotors were gone and the bearings were shot. He quoted me $1700 for another set of clean housings, turbo II rotors, brand new apex seals (his inventory) that he has at home, brand new bearings, and a rebuild with full bridge port, plus $950 to polished most of the parts. It took him over 3 months to get done with my motor and all the parts (other than short block) were all gone. Anyhow, I've had the motor sitting for about a month and now decided to sell the engine as my project stopped. I have couple of potential buyers for the motor, and insist to know what parts are in and work that was done to it. I went back to "Gary" for a full detail but I got a different story than the first time. So I decide to crack the motor open myself to see what's in it. As I expected, all the parts in my motor were all used and are not even for my applications. Here are the list of what's in my motor now:
-Used N/A housings converted to Turbo , by removing the exhaust ports and machined the holes on the side (not sure why).
-N/A used rotors with carbon build up and the bearings are shot ( the gold are showing!!). This is suppose to be a motor that takes 15-20 lbs of boost, according to my spec that I got quoted for.
-the irons- not sure where they came from.
-Full bridge porting- can you believe the shapes of those ports? Did he just used a Makita tool to port them? WTF.
-Water pump- one of the bolts to hold the water pump broke, so now the stud is stuck in there ( the very bottom). He just decided that since nobody can see it, he just used some silicone and plug that hole without drilling it out and put a new bolt!!
There are more stuff on this motor that are wrong but I'll end this for now and let the pictures do the talking. I want to WARN anybody in Southern California not to do any type of bussiness with this guy. He took all my good reusable parts and give me crappy ones from the junkyard and put a motor back together for me. I request my old bad parts back but he said he junked them already. He's a liar, thief and a scumbag. Please don't let this POS in our rotary community. He doesn't go to any meets or big events as he knows that someone that we burned in the past will confront him. PLEASE LET'S THE WORD OUT!! Anyone that has bad experience with him please chime in, thanks. Here are the pics:

Please,if you want the job done right, pay a litttle more and you'll be happy. Go with the pros like Rotary Power, Mazdatrix (pricey),ect. Support our members on the board and go with JRX, Junie, Lucky 7, or other reputable shops and get the job done RIGHT!!! Keep this POS "Gary" out of our Rotary community. He has his ads on Craigslist, and claim to be from Puerto Rico, and has never been on a plane? hahah..what a fcuking joke. Keep this fucker out of our community. He also burned my other friend as well, which I feel bad because I introduced him to that piece of shit "Gary". What other mechanics do you see collect cans and bottles,not mention scrap metals for living, if he's really that good. He doesn't even have a rotary of his own!!! After all these years of burning people, I figured he should have a million dollar home already. He' had just moved to new rental house where he stores all the parts and engines that he stole from customers, including mine. Anyways, please bumping this so nobody else gets burn by this fucker.

He got me too,I'm a sucker. but I'm a sucker that knowes where he lives. and I have a signed contract, that doesnt mean shit because he doesnt have anything worth money.

Chad, sorry to hear about your story. Are you the one that got his other fully polished motor? And No, you don't know where he lives now, because he has just moved AGAIN about 3 weeks ago. I have a friend who knows exactly where he lives now,still in Long Beach. I've been the that shit hole apartment that you're talking about, but now he's in a bigger place (2bdroom) home where he can stock more stolen parts!!!!

You guys should not let this ride. File a police report.. file a small claims lawsuit.. Contact craigslist... This is grand theft and fraud.. He could actually end up doing jail time.. Get in contact with all the people he has done this to... I am sure there are more victims..

seriously it looks like he took a drill and drilled out three or four holes and then used a saw to cut the rest out and then smoothed it out with sandpaper... thats terrible.

If he's got enough money to afford to pay rent, he has to have something going on. This guy is going to keep ripping people off until he gets caught.

It's up to you to put the motor the way it is, but put it this way. If you put the motor in and it runs like crap, you'll have to take it back out again. In my case, I thought hey, let's make sure the motor is good before it goes in the car. You'll be spending a lil more money for the new seals if the motor is good, but now you KNOW the motor is good. Gary would have never thought that someone would be crazy enough to open his BRANDD NEWW motor after he has worked on it. YES, I"m the crazy one!! Now the whole world knows what kind of a thief he is.

You might have been crazy, but you've uncovered his scam. I bet he made sure the engine looked real nice on the outside because he knew his work was shit. What an ass.

Dam itsucks to know there are people out there that are willing to go so low just to make a couple of bucks dam this guy needs to get raped with a E-Shaft.

Dude, take this guy to small claims court. Its about $35 to file, From his description i doubt he'll even show. The courts will write you a check, and then they will go after him for collections. Easy as pie.

He seriously gave you a messed up motor. If you dont take him to small claims court, your a fool...

This dudes a total asshole man. 9 years ago...yes 9. This dickhead promised to get my N/A FC started when I was about 17yrs old...straight noob to Rotaries.
Dont ask but I had just purchased the car and it ran a downdraft Mikuni carb with 48 ida.

It sounded really loud under the hood with this setup but still ran. He promised to kill some of the noise and quiet it down a bit as it was straight pipe and was quite brutal as far as noise.

Droppd my car off, paid some rediculous price for the work..somewhere around $600, and in the end he took my Mikuni and switched it with a OEM four barrel carb I think from a first gen. :icon_no2:

I do hope this fag goes down for all his shadiness. There's other stories I got about this chump, but I'll save it...thinking about it makes me mad all over again.

Sucks man. I just got scammed by a guy named Martin... this guy claims he knows all kinds of people in the industry, basically he took money for a custom turbo kit I wanted for my friend's car and ran off with it, now I'm in the process of finding him. I guess he's been doing this for a while because he moved to the east coast because he was scamming people there then has moved back here to do it all again. I can't believe people would do things like this. I wanna punch all scammers in the f*cking face and then make them bite the curb. Atleast you know this Gary guy is still in LA
