Finally getting started on my WI setup

Ok, well after 2 years of delay and my WI system sitting in the box, I'm finally starting to make some progress. Here are a few pics of my system, tank design and mockup. Planning to run a Euro-style rear tank fully hidden by the rear cargo bay panel. I'll keep you all posted with pics and writeup as I make progress.

My system. Aquamist HFS-5 with Summer.

Preliminary tank design and proposed positioning. Tanks will have internal baffles and will be connected on the bottom edge by a radiator hose. Outlet for WI pump and low level sensor will be on the far bottom edge of the drivers side tank.

i really like the idea. what do you plan to make the tank out of? i have a touring model which has a wiper and squirter but i removed all that so i want to that tank for my install. it may be a little small so i may be making a new tank as well.

Thanks. My current plan is to make it out of aluminum. I have several aircraft mechanics where I work who do aluminum welding jobs on the side and have excellent skills. Here's a quick sketch of what I'm envisioning. The fill port will remain in the current stock position of the rear panel.

Should have great capacity. Looks like what....about 2 gallons? And easy to refill. Really nice that you have access to someone that can weld them.

Where do you plan on putting the pump?

Pumpwise, my preliminary thoughts are either beside the drivers side tank OR in the spare tire well if I decide to ditch my spare. We'll see how it pans out. Would like it in a slightly lower position than my tanks.

Mockup pics of my internal tank baffles. Recently converted everything to aluminum and am working with my welder on beginning the assembly process. Here's the mockup. Pics of the final tank to come within the week.

Out of curiousity, why two vent hoses?

No reason in particular. Just thought that having a couple vent hoses would help eliminate air pockets as the tanks fill up with liquid. Having two at different locations on top increases your chances of minimizing air pockets IMO. You could probably achieve the same result with just one slightly larger vent hose, but I do believe that they're important.

These type of pumps are better pushing rather than pulling. Although capable of creating suction of a few psi, the high pressure lends itself to pushing with ease.

Mount it close/below to the tank if possible, (flooded suction), wtih pump head downward in case of leak it doesn't soak the motor.

I think you could use 3/8 tubing to run to the injection point. See attached chart. Upper right.

That pump is probably rated around 1 GPM. No more than that is required for the nozzle(s) flow.

I did something similar to your design. I used the stock tanks in the back then added an additional tank, and pump under the car.

Almost there

Tank is nearing completion. Just a few final details to work out, then mount the pump and other pieces and test it out. Just wanted to show everyone the latest progress!

For those wondering, I did a test fill and it holds ~1.8 US gals.

Prior to my only "trim" modification

Good question. 1.8 gals of water is a little over 6 lbs. I'll weigh them in the next few days. My guess is that the whole assembly filled weighs less than 15 lbs, but I'll verify that and let everyone know.

Final pics of tanks polished and powder-coated mounting plate. Used a pair of rubber radiator mounts as my tank mounts. Starting the final install this weekend.

You spent how much money or time to polish the aluminum tanks which are hidden and can not be seen. Is that suppose to be rational?

Understood Chuck and for the most part "agreed." The "slight" reason for polish is my plan have the rear hatch open and latch panel removed for car shows just to show off the AI tanks. Other than that, it's pure nonsense, but then so is polishing and powdercoating suspension control and underframe pieces, but many still do it. Ok, so I went a "little" overboard on the tank. Oh well

On a side note, is anyone aware of some good images of Aquamist system FD installs? Where do most mount the other "system" components? In the kick panel area? Glove box? Any guidance on BEST locations would be appreciated!

Thx
