Spark Plug Selection (E85)

I was wondering what heat range spark plugs is everyone using. I'm currently running unboosted with 9's but was not sure whether a 10 or 11 should be used. I would think with the cooling properties one should be able to get away with a 9's. Any thoughts?

I am using 9's all around with a Jacobs FC2000 on the leading. No issues here.

Anyone else running 10's or 11's and at what boost.

I'm running b11EGV's at 28psi.

While running E85 do you foul out those plugs if you cruise arround in the car to much without boosting?

Sindregutt May 4, 2009 04:14 AM

Alittle off topic but can you use stock FC ignition when running 500hp E85 13b?

ChrisRX8PR May 4, 2009 08:43 AM

I have NGK BR8EIX(Leading) and BR9EIX(Trailing) for up to 20psi on a PT71GTQ. For more boost than that I use the 9's for leading and BR10EIX for trailing.

haven't had any issues so far and my engine is 10:1 Compression. Its up to around 500whp with the 8-9 combo @20-21psi with no issues. I have four LS2 Coils, one for each spark plug and I am now switching the two leading coils to MSD LS2 Coils.

Chris

Well it takes a little more energy to ignite the alcohol than gasoline, so I would say no. Besides if you are spending the money to get the 500hp mark, why would you skimp on a $200 ignition box?

True true! i thought i might need some more than just an ignition box, but putting a MSD 6A on the leading will juice it up enaugh?

Viking War Hammer May 4, 2009 02:38 PM

All I have is a MSD 6AL and stock TII coils. Getting tuned in 30 days, running 13,440cc worth of injector and two M15 alcohol nozzles, not sure how far that will take me.

Gonna run the NKG 10.5 Advanced Auto Specials....

Hey Ryan, do you ever have issues with cold starts and/or foul out those plugs?
I got those race ngk 11s and fouled the:wallbash:m as soon as it got cold out.

No, but I think 40deg ambient has probably been the coldest weather that I have tried to start it in.

9's

Gohan3rdrift May 5, 2009 10:11 PM

Part numbers:

B11EGV #5831 $4.59 each
B10EGV #5927 $4.59 each

Has anyone had any problems using these with E85 and/or Methanol?

Viking War Hammer May 6, 2009 08:34 AM

I know someone who runs the B10EGV in his alcohol motor.... 750 hp

Gohan3rdrift May 6, 2009 09:38 AM

Any idea what these should be gapped to?
Not gonna run a crazy amount of boost or anything...;)

Also, where did you guys buy the "thin wall socket"?
or did you modify a regular one?

Viking War Hammer May 6, 2009 09:48 AM

take a grinder to the socket

Gohan3rdrift May 6, 2009 09:54 AM

That's what Steven Burkett did as well...
I just didn't want to compromise the integrity of the socket....:)
You know how buff I am.
Always breaking tools and what not.

Viking War Hammer May 6, 2009 10:07 AM

yeah, I over did mine and split it down the middle........ but it still works for what little torque spark plug needs

Hey I know that person

Sindregutt May 13, 2009 10:46 AM

Im getting my car tuned on this friday with -> W31ES-ZU Denso plugs. Might be a shot in the dark but i found it in a subtitution list with B10EGV. I did consider the IW31 too.
Feel free to come with some inputs but ill know for sure on friday
I dont know much about this but isnt the B10EGV (denso;W31ES-ZU) shorter than the stock mazda NGK plugs? Is this something we have to have in mind while tuning?
(i got 4x1680cc so im not looking for high numbers :/ )
