Mods, you can delete the initial post and title the thread "ignition switch harness issue".....please

It took me 6 tries to even get it to let me post a thread much less the first one in which I spent time on that is now lost, so this will be short right now.

pertinent info (I'll go into more detail later):

I believe that the black wire w/green stripe (switched 12V) has a short to ground. I pulled all of the turbo timer harness direct/unfused connections off (that someone else was smart enough to wire that way) and it decreased the heat (I think) by some amount, but the wire in question is still warm to the touch. Ideas? What else pulls off of this wire? Tell me to reference the FSM wiring diagrams and die.....newbies need not apply.

According to the wiring diagrams I've downloaded, current goes from the battery>> through a couple fuses (120A main and 40A B1, under the hood), then through that black/green wire >> into the ignition switch , then (if the switch is on) >> out the switch through the black/white wire, which branches off to quite a few different systems, including a couple more fuses (15A engine and 20A fuel pump), then the fuel pump relay, EGI main relay, ignition coils (unfused), igniter(unfused), and condensor (which might be the a/c condenser, but the diagram isn't quite clear).

In other words, good luck because it seems you've got plenty of troubleshooting to do. Did removing the turbo timer harness solve your problems? What is the problem in the first place?

I am visiting family right now and away from the car, but in general I was having starting problems in which the starter would turn over, but the accessory 12V inside the car (stock gauges, regular lights on start-up, etc) would not turn on and the car would not start. I thought at first that it was a problem with the actualy ignition switch, but upon taking that area apart to troubleshoot and test the switch I found what you see in the pictures (link above).

I had to use part of the turbo timer harness for it's unmelted connector so it is still there, but nothing is drawing off of it. I rewired all of the accessories (aftermarket gauges/boost cont) so that they are pulling off of a fused wire now. However, the wire still feels slightly warm to the touch. I don't think enough to really melt the plastic again (it was getting HOT before), but it still concerns me.

I'm looking for ideas/help b/c I am usually extremely busy during the week and weekends with flight training. I apologize if my initial post came off harsh....I was more than a little upset after writing up exactly what is happening and then having the forum crash it several times. I haven't posted on here in a long while...apparently it's a common problem though.

Anyways, ideas?

scotty305, if the wires run like you're saying I find it strange that enough current running through there to melt the plastic connector should be less than 40A (B1).....
