One thing I think you can do to help figure out the problem while the transmission is in the car is to loosen but dont remove the PP bolts that secure it to the flywheel. From the video it seems you were getting enough throw when the clutch pedal is pushed to disengage the clutch. I wonder if the clutch rusted to the PP and the flywheel. By loosening the bolts and trying to start the car in gear you may be able to free it up if that is the problem.

I have seen this happen on other vehicles but not a FD.

Prolly a good idea to order a new clutch. Instead of the master and slave. Is there any other rusty areas on the car? Still need to remove the trans if it's rusted to the flywheel.

I just got a call back from my mechanic, and he told me that the fork on my Transmission was not disengaging because it broke. He also told that the reason my clutch fork broke is because of the high end clutch (ACT). He said that if I replace the fork with a factory clutch fork, it will break again because of the upgraded clutch. So, on that note, you are probably going to have to have the transmission opened in order to find out if that is the main issue.

update, Finally got the problem resolved and its thanks to renesisfd. I loosened the trans as he suggested and then put the car in gear and started. A small bam later and the clutch got unstuck from the flywheel. Guess 2 years of sitting outside made it stick.

i took it out for a quick drive and its driving very very well. The apexi suspension feels amazing. What a car...what a steal...good luck buying even an FB for what I paid for this car :p

Thanks all for the help. Forgot just how great the rx7 club is when it comes to helping out its fellow members.

That's AWESOME you didn't have to yank the trans! Glad to hear you got it resolved.

No problem. Glad to hear it worked.

Lets just hope it doesnt start slipping because of the rust now.

Wow I have never seen such a thing. I love learning new shit like that.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Here is my situation. My factory clutch went out so I had it replaced with Competition Clutch Stage 5 and Lightweight Flywheel (also counter weight) and shortly after I broke in the clutch maybe 800 miles the tranny got stuck in reverse. So I ordered another Tranny and had it put in. Now its doing what he stated above. It wouln't go into gear when the car is running, but it goes in when the car is off. So where should I go next? BTW I have a 93 RX

Reviving a 2 year old thread......

I too was having a similar problem as the OP. I stored my car away for winter and when I went to drive it today, I could not get the clutch to engage. I could shift into gears fine, with the car tuned off, and the clutch felt the same as it always had.

After reading this thread, I went outside , put the car into gear, and cranked it over once. I felt the car move some. Then I tried putting it in neutral and starting it up like normal and it worked!!!! I think that the clutch was stuck form sitting for a couple of months. I suggest everyone try this if their 7 has been sitting for a couple of months and can't engage the clutch...

i will be troubleshooting this exact same problem this weekend. im hoping its an easy fix and that i dont have a destroyed pilot bearing. im going to try all the things listed in this thread and report back what worked....

The clutch disc can stick the the flywheel, and the way to unstick it is like was mentioned. Put it in gear while it is not running the start it like normal. That should

cr-rex 03-21-15 04:56 AM

well.... fixed the issue today. sure enough, started it in gear and everything is good now. im guessing my case was pretty bad since it took FOR-EV-ER to get it to shift smoothly. for future reference, this is what i did:

pointed the car at an empty stretch of road
put it in first with the car off and brakes off
turned the key and let the car move until it started
once started and moving, push the clutch pedal in and try and shift

repeat this process until you car press in the clutch with the car on and have the revs drop

once you can shift somewhat, from a stop go into 3rd and drive
stop, go into 2nd and drive
stop, go into 1st and launch at ~3000rpm

that is so you can get the clutch disk working to break off whatever was on it causing it to stick.

thank you rx7club again =D
