Will I fit in a Gen 3?
 

I'm 6'4" 230lbs and I cant really find a gen 3 to test drive, so I figured it would be easier to ask someone. Would I be comfy in an FD?

I absolutely love RX-7's though and have been trying to get a hold of a SA RX7 for some time, an FD is a long way off though. I dont make enough money for one yet.

oh and I couldn't really find this question via search as there aren't any key words that are good for searching nor was it in the FAQ

there are quite a few people who are your size and fit.... not as comfortably as somone 5 10 180lb....... with some modifing to the location/position of the seat, i think you should be fine....... for sure theres enough leg room... just sit in a miata (yes a miata) and see what i mean :]

but if you have financial issues.... it would be a little difficult to own/maintain a FD

No as of right now it prolly wouldn't be best to buy a $15k car, I'm only making $15 an hour, Cause this is an entry position, but in a year or so I will be making $30 - $50 an hour and it would be financially OK to do

well im 6'3" about 235ish and i fit im my fd. you just need to adjust the seat right.


also i seem to recall different models of the fd that can fit us larger people easier. ie no sunroof for space

And honestly, do you live in the middle of the desert or something? Cali has more FDs by far than any other state. It should be relatively easy to test drive one.

How easily would you give up the keys to your ride and let someone you dont know drive it?

I'm like 6'2" and 160lbs. and the FD makes me want to stay skinny, hahahaha. I think you could physically fit in the car, but whether or not you'd be comfortable enough to drive it a lot is for you to decide.

For us bigger guys (I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs) you are going to be much more comfortable in a base or R1/R2 model with no sunroof for sure. I used to drive my FD fairly long distances when I was dating a couple of different girls, one lived about 120 miles away and the other about 150, and believe me that was ALL the miles I ever wanted to drive. If you look and measure an FDs actual 'flat' seating surface between the bolsters, it is only about 11" wide where your butt sits and only 14" wide at the widest point where your thighs are.

I've wanted to take my FD over to Missouri where I have my boat, the roads there are incredibly fun to drive....but the idea of a 5 hour trip in the FD makes my ass say, "Whoa there, good buddy!"

I'm 6'3" 210 and the biggest issue I have is the lack of a tilt steering wheel. Otherwise it's ok. Long trips aren't comfortable, but it's something I can live with on the few troad trips I take her on.

6'2" 220 pounder here. I have the touring model with sunroof. I fit OK with the stock seat tilted back. I've noticed that the seat head rest is totally wrong when I set it up this way - if I rest my head back against it, my face is like 6 inches back from where it wants to be while driving. Feels like I'd get whiplash if hit from behind.

All this said, I have a long torso for my height, so my fitment is probably more like a 6'4" guy in the seat, but more like a 6'0" guy in the drivers footwell. I was thinking about putting a reacing seat in to drop the seat height a couple inches. Hopefully this would allow me to wear a helmut in the car without problems, and improve normal driving comfort for me.

Where exactly are you located? CA could mean California (which is a pretty big place) or Canada (which is a bit bigger).

I havnt seen any FD's but ive seen a good amount of FB's and FC's

I'm 6'1" and 230lbs. The only complaints I had at first when I got in was the lack of tilt steering wheel. There is literally NO room between your thighs and either side of the steering wheel. Seriously, I can't even have the cord from my phone charger hanging on my side there is so little room. You will get used to that though.

I suppose comfort depends on what your definition of "comfortable" is.. lol. If snug is comfortable for you than you will be peachy. You really may want to stay away from the Touring model though, because there isn't much head room for taller people in the roof. Personally I wouldn't trade a sun roof for anything though, so I deal =)

my dad is 6'4" and has no trouble driving my car, just moves that seat all the way back and reclines it alot. but he would only drive it for a short period of time, and only a couple of times.

I was talking about cars for sale...jeesh. :rolleyes: Besides which, he only needs to sit in it, not drive it.

I thought many sellers discouraged "Joy Riders"
