who is using the a-spec tranny brace?
anyone want to comment on the a-spec tranny brace? I did not find much when i did a search?

I've got it. Made me realize that I need motor mounts. :D
I think it really tightened up the drivetrain some. I have the diff brace too. I think the main benefit is to supplement the ppf. With this keeping things in line, I think it would really take some creative driving to crack it with this installed. The only bad think I can think of is if you drag (which I know you don't) you're going to give the diff that much more shock, which isn't a big deal in my book since those who do will probably be replacing the stick rear anyway. |
thanks for the notes railgun,
my track car has custome motor mounts and a engine torque brace, so the engine dosnt rotate, but the tranny (shift knob) does bounce all over the place, that is what I want to tighten up. |
It definitely takes care of that. At least it did for me.

I have one waiting to be installed........... someday........ :)

I have one. Makes the drivetrain rock solid. They recommend putting a thin sheet of rubber on the mounting areas, but I didn't and it is LOUD :D Even louder since now I have both a tranny and UIM torque brace (no dampening).
edit: When installing it, many people complained that it doesn't fit. When I was putting mine on, at first I thought the same thing, but jacking up the car LEVEL fixed the alignment "issue" for installation. Still a tight fit, but that's what I was lookin' for! |
I have it as well. Between my poly mounts and the brace I have no driveline slop to speak of. Definately a worthwhile mod.

thanks for the notes guys, looks like I'll try one and see how it feels, I may use some thin bushing material as a dampener but really sound/vibration it not an issue since its on my track car that already vibrates all over the place and is silly loud.

damian,
I'm running an A-Spec tranny brace (and a kgparts diff brace/jim's bushings/gotham engine mount/HPI ETB). I think every part i bought was made on Wednesday as nuthing fit right. We had to put the tranny brace on a press to flatten it out as the orig angle was pulling on the PPF causing the d/s to hit it. Anyhoo, here's a vid of my car idling (from my GT40R post). At the 44sec mark, my friend went inside the car and u can hear the rattling from all the vibration being transmitted inside the car. |
Damn...I don't have ANY rattling. I didn't put anything between it and I've never noticed any difference in interior noise.
|
well, my exhaust is so loud it trumps any inside rattling noise anyway LOL :-)
|
Damian, give us one of your great write-ups once you've installed and tested. I too am considering one so some educated words from you are always welcomed. Thanx

:-)

Im gonna have to go with Luizajeff on that one , would love to see a write up... I need to start prepping up my track car.
|
It's as simple as changing a spark plug. Remove old stock brace tied to the underbody. Remove the two lower 22mm nuts on the tranny housing. Place brace into position and replace nuts/bolts. Done. Like hyperite said, if you have alignment issues, you're probably not on a level surface.
|
You can probably have this custom made locally as well. I know my builder makes them for his customer cars as well as a Dragon-type diff brace. Just fyi...

Any pictures of this and where it goes ? ? ? ?

I also have the a-spec trans brace i havnt installed it yet but im sure a local machine shop could do better job. I waited a month and half for mine and after i got it i personaly dont think that the quality is there for how much i paid and how long i waited. And it was my first expiernce with a-spec and it puts a doubt in my head if there will ever be another. But this is just my opinion nothing personal towards a-spec but im sure the peice will get the job done for you. PS love your track car |
