looked for months at ebay, autotrader and cars.com. Ended up buying from marco at magnus motorsports and trailering it back from canada.

Was looking for years and years at Autotrader.com, cars.com, etc. I broadened the search by traveling out of town/state just to check one out. Fortunately, my FD was purchased locally from a FD veteran (Thanks Autospot!).

After looking for about a month, I finally bought mine from a fellow forums member and got a great deal on it. :bigthumb:

Buy from someone on this forum. I did and got a fair deal.

Research the vehicle and the seller. Have a compression test done and a general check on turbo, transmission and look for any nasty body problems. A lot of these cars have been wrecked and fixed with varying degrees of skill.

Try to find someone who has one that will give you an opportunity to drive theirs so when you go on a test drive, you know what a good one feels like. Don't be in a hurry to buy. Go back a couple of times and look for problems that can can be used to negotiate a fair price. I looked at four cars before I bought mine. I could have looked at two more but it would have added six months to the search. None of these cars are perfect. They are 10 plus years old. Know what you can tolerate up front. Repairs are expensive in the area of seats, body or paint and engine. I don't think I would bother with a car that needed extensive paint work. A good paint job is $3,000 or more. A new engine is $5,000 if you have the work done. At least a compression test will tell you when that will be required. Interior work is strictly visual, so you can cover yourself somewhat with the big three.

By the way, I'd avoid a car with a lot of engine mods. The odds are they weren't done right in the first place. Unless the owners can provide proof they were done by someone like A-spec or the other reputable shops on these boards, I'd stay closer to stock.

I found mine in the autotrader website. I drove to Texas from Southern California to pick it up and trailered it home

I found my 1993 RX-7 R1 by using Autotrader. The car was in Napa Ca, When I went to check out the car, it was love at first sight. I bought it the same day and been happy ever since.

Yeah I got screwed. Had it since last feb. currently saving money to fix it all.

Was a red one right? I remember them having a red automatic some time ago, which I believe came from ZOOM AUTO GROUP some months before that had went out of business, if so they wanted 19,999$ for it and I drove it, P O S

Nice site, they dont carry many cars but the prices are pretty reasonable. Did they ship the car to you?

Found mine on auto trader. From Sport Compact Car. Also bought mine without ever seeing it in person. Put the decision in my wife's hands. Seems to have worked out very well :)

I bought mine in 93 at a Ford dealership. Some lady traded it in for a truck. She lived down a dirt road and it did not go well with the FD. Had 4,000 miles on it when I bought it. Traded in a Miata for it. My brother just sold his for $15,000 to someone in the NE. He had a R1 totally stock.
