What's the ideal for a clean FD?
Kinda bored...........
So what does the term "clean" mean to you? For me, I'd probably have to say leave most of the natural smooth body lines of the FD and add the following: 1. 99 Front lip, maybe also the 99 spec front bumper 2. Lowered 3. Some sort of classy 5 spoked rims (Silver) 4. tint 5. Dual exhaust tips (Like the Racing Beat) 6. And of course a nice waxy surface Anything more than that I would consider slighty agressive all the way to extreme........ For me I think I would fit in the clean-slight agressive look...... Because I have black rims and a single tipped exhaust........... What do you guys think and where do you fit into? -Dan |
like this?

Close to my ideal:).
http://community.webshots.com/album/29829335dZcQQoISEZ My car= R1, RB dual tip, Eibach springs, Fikse wheels (formerly SSR Integrals, which I LOVED too). I like the look of tint but it isn't really functional. Can't tell if that is a cop behind you, can't see out the side windows as well at night, etc. I think it just makes the car harder to drive fast. I've seen the 99 lip in person and don't really like it as much as the 93 lip. Basically I don't like the way it sticks out from the side of the car. I like the 99 nose, but it's sharper lines don't match the smooth lines of the FD body as well as the 93 nose IMHO. The deal breaker is that god awful license plate holder thing, ugh! I'd like to get a newer rear spoiler off a 96+ or whatever. I think they look classy. Jeff |
I've always thought that Rich's (Goodfellas) FD was a great example of a clean car. Especially with those Fikse FM5's.

The cleanest cars tend to have the fewest body mods, because everytime you mod the car its another opportunity to screw something up (mismatched paint, poor fit, mods simply not going together, etc). Here are a few fine examples:
1. CYM with wheels, tint, lowered and foglights https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1475212 |

2. Wheels, one of my few MBM photos that do the color some justice

3. Bone stock, VR, this is fanatical paint care right here...

which company sells the replica '99 bumper? Haven't been able to find it.
|
What wheels are on the CYM?
The yellow CYM would be a ideal clean car. |
Heres my plan for my FD (cosmetic wise)
I have a PEP BB. - 99 front lip - 99 tail lights - lowered (which is) -17 Gold Volk Gramlights 57pro's - Feed Rear Spoiler DONE! |
Here's another pic of my '94 R2 that just came out really shiny in the pic.

Originally posted by turbojeff Was that Jeff Witzer's car? A guy name John Rolf? bought it, lived in California. It has a single turbo now. He had it up for sale last August, the car had something like 146K miles on it. Jeff oh well. |
how about this one
http://www.gregmacway.com/carpics/new_side3.jpg I don't like the idea of the '99 lip w/o the '99 front. it doesn't sit flush and leaves gaps. |
All the things the original person mentioned are nice. However, I'm not too big on tint though. I can do either-or.

He gave me a great deal and its set up really well other than a bit of hesitation after 6k (needs some tuning or has a bad primary coil). I put in a 99 trans, evo passenger seat, and some m2 toe links and its good as new :). Most recent dyno is 358 at 14psi. Running with the z club at VIR next weekend with some time trials so I'll see how she does. Fritz |
What kind of wheels are on the CYM in that picture. Hey Fritz maybe you could tell me. Do you still have them on the car? If so then I may have to come by and take a look at them some time.

I just sold the Sparko Vipers which are really cool looking but heavy as stones 22lbs or more. I replaced them with some ssr comps that came from yet another car I aquired :) Hopefully I'll see you at spring MADS. Take care, Fritz |
Any car that has been taken care of properly will look phenomenal especially a well taken care of montego blue probably one of the prettiest colors out there when taken care of. When not it turns to greeny. Black is my first choice since I own one but you need to watch out for swirl marks and such. But then there is cym.

hey guys, that is my mb in the pictures above, thanks for the compliments, here is another set of pics that show off the MB color and clean look:
http://www.northstarrotaries.com/for...web_green1.jpg http://www.northstarrotaries.com/for..._web_957_2.jpg ...and (shamless plug) you can see these pics at my club site here and my track videos here |
I'll say if you wanna be extremely clean, leave the whole thing stock. Boost gauge, a lowered stance, and keep the stock rims.
But I'm not dissing the cars I've seen in this thread, they're pretty clean. |
I like Scorpio's too.... :)
Cleanest one I've ever seen...well, besides jimlab's, but his doesn't count. ;) http://www.gt3540.com/pics/decmeet/Scorpio_FD_1.jpg http://www.gt3540.com/pics/decmeet/scorpio_front.jpg http://www.gt3540.com/pics/decmeet/s...otor_close.jpg |
I'm a proud member of the clean FD club too

Big red , Im picking up some gram lights aoon, Could you send me the info on yours and some pics? The cars are all clean IMO.
I think that Fd3BOOST has the cleanest car that I have evert seen in person though. Hands down . |
This was done in my shop. We took the time to fit the kit and mold the side skirts into place. Most don't even know that there's side skirt. If done right, kits can look clean. Just takes time.

I think FD's look great when they graduate from the stock wheels. The visual effect of lowering alone is noticable even with the stock wheels. I don't like slammed bugggies, but the FD is one of those cars that comes with such beautiful lines that closing the wheel well gap and accenting it with rims just does it right. I have an HKS Hiper exhaust and I really like it for the flow it opens up with a downpipe, but once I have the money to be spending on an extra exhaust, I think I will go for a Racing Beat/M2 dual tip, or a single if I can get some performance and sound comparisons. Every time I walk up to the car in the lot, I grin while I'm admiring the body lines, but once that race style exhaust comes into view, it kind of distorts the elegance of the car. As far as body lines, I really love the wingless option. I prefer to match lip spoilers with their compatible year front ends. 99 with 99 and 93-95 with the same. I think mix matching the front ends and lips leaves a noticable contrast in detail. The 99's are just too sharp for that smooth front end the 93-95's come with. I am a big fan of the full 99 conversions, though. The turn signals really catch your eye. I like part changes that make the car look and feel newer. I'd really like to do the upholstry sometime too when I have the money. If I knew how to attach pictures to my post, I'd put up a couple shots of a Karmann Ghia that was just restored at the shop in Taiwan. My girlfriend's dad loves them and he knows restoration. All original parts for one thing... but nothing compares to the perfection he finished it off with- full Bentley leather interior. If I could go Gordon Monsen style, I would.

clean means a nice paint job, the money your mother give for you to use on it :) , and what your taste is! but more of what money your mother gives you ;)
|
wow! nice cars, that is the first CYM 7 I have actually liked, the color is just not for me, but with the cleanness and black wheels it looks fantastic.
I agree with the first post though, it definately needs dual tips, for some reason singles just look like ass to me. It also needs the front lip in BLACK. These are just my opinions, however. But can someone point out which pics have the 99 spec front spoiler and which ones have the US front spoiler? I'm not sure which is which. |
personally, an all stock exterior with r1 lip, rp-01's and lowered a tad. cym would be the obvious color choice, but i think that would look good on all but white cars. i don't think rp-01's suit white cars.

I think these news side skirts that everyone is doing in frp fits into the Clean and tasteful category.
I'd say those started being popular a few years back. |

I'd say those started being popular a few years back. Clean to me means: nice overall mechanical and physical condition car with no accident history |

Just wait until Goodfellas grandkids come on to answer old FD questions. Eventually it's going to happen and Montego will be here as a very old man telling them to "GET OFF MY LAWN!"
