I run the PRofec B Spec II on two of my cars and don't have many complaints.

I knew a guy that was running an avcr on his turbo Saturn and had it running nicely. It was set to reduce boost in 1st and 2nd gears to attempt to grab a little more traction. He posted up his settings in case anyone else wanted to try one. I've got no personal experience with it so I'm not going to recomend it.

ok profec b whats a good deal for a used one with everything to install?

onemeansaturn 07-13-07 07:52 AM

I'd say around $250 for a used one in good shape with everything ready for the install. They go for ~$330 new from most places.

I would say the best one is the one they tell you to buy in the FD forum! Just an idea I could be wrong.

Greddy profec B spec II. Cheap, nice, easy to use and... cheap!!

DMoneyRX-7 07-13-07 11:21 AM

I love my Profec B. It functions great, it is simple and easy to tune, easy to switch boost, and looks sweet. My only problem with it is you have to know at which knotch is what boost level. I think the Profec B II shows what boost level you are running at which setting. Other than that, it is easy to install and works like a charm.

<--running profec-b spec II. Controls boost pretty well so far but I did hit a cool midnight run one night and boost crept to 16psi from my limited setting of 15psi. But I also am running DP, MP and RB muffler without a ported wastegate.

My AVC-R works fine on my single.

However, you really do have to "prime" it with a reasonable solenoid duty cycle initial value. I had it set to basically zero duty cycle (to avoid an overboost when getting started with a new engine/turbo setup) and it seemed to not work at all. It just ran off the mechanical wastegate spring. However, it worked fine after entering a more realistic initial value for the solenoid duty cycle.

On twins the Profec B Spec 1 or Type S work very well and easy to adjust/tune with their nice simple dual knobs for hi/lo boost.

The Spec II seems a bit harder to tune judging from all the threads asking for help on it.

But....If you are seq. (you didn't say), and don't have any creep (you didn't mention that either) than Damon's manual BC fine tunes both your pre-spool and final boost perfectly. I used to use it before fully opened the exhaust.

A boost controller will control boost spikes but not boost creep, which is what you likely have with those mods.

I'm running a manual BC and pre-spool, cost about $8. No electronic "bling" and it's a little more trouble to set, but rock-solid 10-8-10, even on cool mornings w/ efini 'Y' and opened intake.

Profec B is pretty good.

Stix37867 07-14-07 01:59 PM

Knightsports EBS by far. The only boost controller out there that's made specifically for the FD.
