What type of gas do you use for you FD, and Why?

I've read around, asked around and it seems like people have different preference for what type of gas they use on their fd. Some people tell me always premium, others say mid-grade. Some even say put in 95 percent mid-grade and the rest premium. I was wondering what you guys prefer, use, and for what reason you use this type of gas. All opinions welcome.

I always run Sunoco Ultra 94 in mine. I use this gas because it is a high octane fuel and burns cooler, keeping internal combustion temps down. Sometimes i mix Ultra 94 with VP C14(with 6 grams of lead) at 50/50. Although i have a stock FD, this fuel combination really wakes up the bottom end and it also provides slightly more crisp throttle response. I do not recommend you use this fuel combination often as it will burn out your O2 sensor rather quickly. For normal everyday street driving, i think Sunoco or Mobil 93 octane is fine.

Conoco 93 octane super-unleaded is the best we can get around here. And.....Conoco does not use oil imported from Iraq.

in california you can only get 91, so that's what I use, mainly chevron. Once in a while when I'm near capital expressway I'll stop by 76 and get some 100 octane just the fun of it.

Jedon 03-16-03 11:51 AM

Here in CA I can usually only get 91 octane :(
I would love to convert to propane if I had the time and money, 114 octane and cheaper, woohoo!

xstacy7 03-16-03 11:57 AM

93 here in Tennessee...

Shinobi-X 03-16-03 12:04 PM

93+ octane here in MD.

Use the highest octane possible. This would mean "premium" at the pumps. The reason why is because that is what the manufactuer recommended. And if you even remotely care about denotation, you would use the higher octane. Pre-ignition ain't fun. And our cars run on the edge as is.

I allways run Amoco Ultimate 93 octane. I've tried other gas station around here without good luck. Amoco allways runs great. I even talked to a guy here that that is one of the managers of a fuel supply company and he said the Amoco was the best ( BTW he doesn't sell Amoco fuel ) as they go through some extra refining processes. I have also found out the Amoco 93 has less sulfer than average gasoline, more butane, to provide better cold starting, and a higher concentration of detergents to help keep carbon deposits off your engine. If you need higher octane just add toulene to this stuff :)

chaste94 03-16-03 05:02 PM

I like to use Amoco as well. BP is now owned by Amoco. It is the exact same gas and is usually cheaper. Here in Charleston the pumps at the BP stations even say Amoco on them.

JhnRx7 03-16-03 06:52 PM

93 octane here in florida...occasionally i can find a place that has 94.

FCNAred 03-16-03 07:17 PM

does premixing 2cycle oil at 1oz/1gallon affect the octane rating at all?

crazysuprakid 03-16-03 09:46 PM

Texaco/Shell or Exxon 93 with MMO

hellokitty812 03-16-03 10:16 PM

ttb 03-17-03 12:40 AM
