What tail lights are these!?
First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong section.
Scrolling down instagram I saw Mayday Garage post these up.. knowing there's a 99.9% chance they're not going to respond, I figured someone here may know  http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7413/1...1e158685_b.jpg |
I'm in love.... Must find
|
|
Hard to say ZE Power...they almost look like an LED strip...a solid line as opposed to individual bulbs.
|
Yeah I just spoke with the people who's car it is. Apparently, it's a custom one off piece and they won't make anymore. :( Sucks, really got me excited as these are pretty sexy.
|
I actually really like them!
|
I see how it is guys I propose the idea years ago and get made fun of and now some big company made it and it is awesome. :)

Look different then
Attachment 655835 The first pic, the lights look more like "one unit"...which I prefer...it's that kind of BMW 7-series look...LOVE it. I don't like the individualized LED-bulb look of the 2nd picture.

The first pic has more of this look: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3474/...4e6e0589_z.jpg Can we get someone to make some baddass modernized tail-lights like this for the FD?? |
If someone (with more intricate electrical finesse than myself) would please just make sets of these lights, I would $%&^*ing buy the $%&^* out of a set.
Really. I've seen a lot of electrical talent on this forum over the years. You have guys like David Hayes making LED ring lights from scratch, etc. Surely collectively we have enough knowledge and talent to be able to have someone produce these designs? Every time they pop up on this forum, people say how much they would like to own a set. If some clever boffin could do a "swap me your tail light cores, I convert them to the new design and send them back" deal, he would be making money. >Who wants to make some money?< :p |

Remember that these guys specialize in LED/HID setups moreso than track tuning. Sorry if that's bad news. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...96126540_n.jpg The car is super sweet though! I already have a half finished prototype made for my personal car. The problem isn't who can make them it is the cost involved. It takes days and days to make, a very labor intensive job. Once all that adds into cost it goes into the thousand dollar range.

I know a guy that's co-owner of Toxic Tails (https://www.facebook.com/ToxicTails). I can get in touch with him and see if he'd be willing to attempt to make a set and go from there, no promises though. I'd be willing to lend him my stockers if he's willing, as I'm going to order some R-Magic's or 99 specs tonight more than likely anyway. So stay tuned, I should have an answer by tonight or tomorrow. No promises he'll be down though.

Every picture including the supra tails are pre made led. Trust me when I say those things are not taken lightly here.
P.S. I already know what kind of leds he is using in the pictures and they are no where near the brightness needed. |
Well fuck, I didn't know. Guess we're back to square one. Good luck with your set.

Looks like they already make a package for the FD... Lights are really dim though as TurboII pointed out already... That just pushes me more towards a modified version of the Theorie/David's Hayes Set he made a walkthrough for last year... J. |
^ I agree on the dim part, those look very poor and would not be up to standards for what you'd want. You don't want to get rear-ended or cause problems for other drivers with crappy light output.
After the GB LED taillight issues of the past, I modified my set to be wicked bright and posted it up here: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...cation-955336/ So, if you want the 99 spec look modified to the Theorie design, there are DIY instructions for you. It's not that hard and the outcome is a nice look with much improved light output. The LEDs I used were so bright, I used potentiometer-based (dimmable) LED power sources so I could dial down the brightness to an acceptable level. I used my light meter to test the output and settled on a brightness level that was around 150% of the stock OEM units. The potentiometer allows you to go to stock (100%) level all the way up to 300% if you'd like. If I can assist in some way with the above or a new product, just ask. I've done a ton of LED research so I've got a lot of sources. Don't want to be in the business of making anything for commercial sale as it's illegal and would most certainly reopen old wounds here on the forum. But I'm happy to offer advice if it's helpful or to test light output to ensure the design is safe. |
They're not DOT approved!!! AHHHH we're all gonna die! hahaha
|
^ No you will be at risk if you produce taillights that are roughly 15% of the brightness of the stock units. Now that will get you in trouble.

I doubt they pose any safety issues but it would undoubtedly be an ordeal to get these through a state inspection or a traffic stop.

Me and Khiem will have the first sets on our FD's in a few weeks. We will post photos and videos soon after. Very excited to see these in person finally.
|
alot of people have been doing custom LED lights lately. i don't think anybody is really making them. they take a lot of time to put together.
