What size tires are you running on your FD?
Tell me your sizes of your front and rear tires. How is the clearances? I just purchased 275/40/ZR17 for the rear and 255/40/ZR17 for the front. Will the fit fine in the fender well?
Thanks |
What are you're wheel offsets, spring rates, ride height, camber, which sway bars do you have... a lot of things can affect the propensity to rub. Those tire sizes can work with the right other components and settings.

I have Eibach Pro kit springs 1 inch drop with Tokico 5 way shocks with M2 Performance Toe links and Trailing arms. The wheels I want are 17 inch Racing hart C2`s I dont know the offset but The sizes ar 8 inch in the front 9 inches in the rear...Should I request a special offset? Everthing else is stock.
|
I don't know all about it but 255 in the front is rather large from what I have heard.
|
Sorry im gonna ask a ? about my set up.
Im gonna run 18's on stock suspension ( atleast for a little while ) with 285/35/18 tires in the rear and 255/30/18 tires in the front. Will I rub like shit or should I be ok until I get aftermarket suspension an springs. Should I just get springs right away? thanks, |

What's the biggest tire size you can run on stock wheels with out scrubbing?
|
Currently I'm running 265/35/18 in the rear and 255/35/18 in the front on the stock suspension without any rubbing.
My Koni's and Eibach's go on next week, to drop it a bit and improve the ride, I'll let you know and will post more pictures... Lots of clearance (too much for me actually) http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/forums/pic1.jpg Front Close (sorry about the shadow) http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/forums/pic2.jpg Rear Width (265's) http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/forums/pic3.jpg Front Angle http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/forums/pic4.jpg |
What is your wheel offset?

Btw, what % is the tint on the windows? Looks very dark to me. |
JAMMNN-
Offset is +42 or +43, can't remember which. Next time I have the wheels off I'll look. dclin - if you are reading this thread, can you comment on the offset of the Borbets? Do you remember? Mach2- Yes, the tint is dark...15% Legal is 50% here in Ohio, so when I cruise around, I usually keep my windows down so I don't get hassled... K |
Originally posted by JoeD your tire sizing is a little off. 285/30-18s would be a better choice for the rear. as for the front, i dont think any manufacturer makes a tire in the size 255/30-18. however, 245/35-18 would be a much better size in the front. JoeD is right on the tire selection, and 255/35/18 will work as well - all depending on offset, camber, etc like the others mentioned. Keep in mind that real world tire dimensions vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even from line to line of the same manafacturer. Case in point - Pirelli 'regular' P zeros 285/30/18s (on 10" width rims) have a measured diameter of 24.9" compared to 25.2" for the P Zero Rossos of the same size (and wheel width). http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...em+Asimmetrico http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...so+Asimmetrico Hey Kyle, 18X9 +42. Probably the furthest outboard I'd recommend if you wanted to do some major lowering, though others have wheels set out a bit more with no problems. The 'last mile' when it comes to fit is tire size selection, and 255/35/18 with that wheel size/offset combo will support mild lowering, and more lowering is possible with 245/35/18s or 235/35/18s (both sizes a bit harder to find though). BTW, stop posting pics of the wheels - you're killing me! :D Withdraws, oh.... |
Daniel,
I'll stop posting pics of MY new wheels and YOUR old ones (hehehe) as soon as my SSR Integral's come in and I change them up for a while... right now, I CAN'T stop posting pics of the wheels, I freakin love em!!! K http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/forums/pic2.jpg :D |
255/40/17 all around with 40mm offset
same size front and rear turned out to be the best for handling rear fit no problem front is maxed out, need to bent the metal under the fender up just a bit This is a helpfull tool to measure sizes: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html |

My mechanic has 275x40 x17 with 43 offset in the rear . The front is 235x 40 x17 with 38 offset . The car is lowered several inches ( more than 2 or 3 inches ) .He said it looked like a 4x4 before lowering . I have not heard it scrape the finders or bottom out , but the front scrapes the ground turnning in my driveway .

I will be going with O.Z. Superleggera III's, 19x10's in rear and 19x8's up front. Tire sizes 275x30x19 in rear, and 235x35x19 in front. These are the guaranteed to fit wheel and tire sizes from O.Z.. TUV and JWL certified. Those are companies that O.Z. has to pay to make sure of a hasle free install (TUV Europe, JWL Japan). Oh, the offset is +40, front and rear. I'm thinking of going to a 8.5 in the front but O.Z. won't guarantee fitment, only the wheel itself. And there is no sending them back if they don't fit. The wheels are made to order. But around $5300 w/tires and shipped to my house. A bit pricey but worth it to me. Very light for a 19", about 19 lbs for the rear wheel. The sierra advan II in an 18" is nearly 25 lbs.

255/40-17 Pirellis, on 9 x 17, 45-mm offset SSR Integral A2s all around. Absolutely no rubbing problems (my offset is 5-mm more inboard than Wuppy's example below). Indeed--handling is stupendous. See my sig pic below @ Putnam Park Road Course, Turn 4, March 2003.

With 275/40 17s in the front and 315/35 17's in the rear I had to cut the rear fender lips and get a workout with a BFH in the rear fender lining and it still rubs under some conditions. I might be off on the specific sidewall height. It's been awhile since I've looked at the tires.

Re: Re: 255/40-17, 9 x 17, 45-mm offset all around
Thanks, Ted. Yeah, I like the tucked-under the fender wells look :) They are SSR Integral A2s in 9 x 17 with 45 mm offset all around. They're discontinued now. You can get the same set up with their current model, SSR GT1. Those are 5 double-spokes. Very nice wheels. ttb has this setup with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates. The GT1s look even better than my plain track Integrals LOL :)
Here's the link to ttb's sweet GT1s, 9 x 17, 45-mm offset all around with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS Intermediates. There's at least two of us with the "SleepR1 Fitment" LOL ;) https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...1&pagenumber=9 Originally posted by badass7 Manny, I love the way your wheels sit in the wells. I think when I upgrade I will go with 17" wheels instead of 18"s. What kind of wheels are in your sig. above Manny ? |
I drool over those GT1s. When I get some money, I will get them in 17, gunmetal grey. Time to waste some time looking at prices at TireRack, although I will probably go with Rishie, if he can still have Batman powdercoat them...

With 235/45/17 +40 offset (front) and 255/40/17 +43 offset (rear) you're all fine. Handling is perfect.
Indeed, I said to myself, that if Mazda fitted those sizes on their stock 99-02 FDs you CANNOT go wrong excepting for weigh differences compared to the wire-mesh BBS wheels when using another rim. I have WORK VS-S5S on. |
Originally posted by rynberg 10" wide wheels with 275s at +40 offset will be VERY close to the rear fender lips. So close, I bet individual tire brand could be the difference between rubbing and not. I also call BS on the 19x10s only weighing 19 lbs. Weigh them when you get them, I'll bet they are at least 22 lbs. Also, I hope your car is just a show car because your ride will be terrible and your straightline and handling will be degraded... $5300!!!! |

Originally posted by Crazy_Jake No worries on the fitment cause O.Z. will except them back if there is any problems. I thought the same thing but they guaranteed it. Originally posted by Crazy_Jake As far as handling, I don't think I'll be able to notice. Rob, SWEET CAR!
LOL I beg to differ. I believe I was the first FD guy running 9 x 17s, 45-mm offset, 255/40-17s all around; I guess if you want to call your setup--"Fritz Flynn Fitment", as a nod to the Fikse FM-10s Fritz had on his MB...wait are your wheels Fritz's old wheels?? I planned to have Buddy Club P-1 Racing QF wheels 18*9" front and 18*10" rear. ET with those is 35 and I planned to use 235/40R18 front and 265/35R18 rear tires. Will those fit?
