I'm with Damon on this. Except I do mine every 2k just because the car sits more than it is driven.

Was running Mobil1 15/50. Will be changing to Mobil1 10/30 because I don't think it matters which one I use, and 10/30 is much cheaper at Costco. They they don't carry 15/50 :D

saburo 10-15-05 09:46 AM

i've never been much of an oil aficionado. I just use regular castrol 10-30 or the equivalent.

neuro 10-15-05 11:14 AM

Havoline 10-30 every 1.5-2k + new filter Car is all oem with 77k on the clock and counting

twisted7 10-15-05 11:37 AM

mp5 10-15-05 08:09 PM

Mobil 1 10/30 every 1000 miles.
I probably use 2 quarts to flush the old oil out, but thats just me being super anal.

akiratdk 10-15-05 08:15 PM

hmmmm.... same shit... just change your oil every 3000 miles and your engine will be happy with which ever oil you put in.... even cooking oil!!!! I never heard of someone blowing up thier motors becuase they put mobile 1.

You should change it every 1500 miles.

Gamezilla 10-16-05 05:53 AM

Been using Royal Purple 20w50 for a while now. Been pretty pleased with it. Gonna try switching to Amsoil synthetic and see if that gets my dying twins to smoke less.

akiratdk 10-16-05 06:28 AM

Mobile Extended 10w-30

That seems like a waste of time and money. Our engines typically fail due to apex or coolant seal failure. I don't know of anyone losing an engine because of not changing the oil frequently enough. The only risk would be slightly more wear on housings, which are usually replaced at rebuild time anyway. Every 3K is plenty.

Wrong. I had my oil sent off a couple years back and the amount of gas in it was frightening. Gas dilutes the efficency and the lubricating properties of the oil.
All of the engines parts are worn down by this not just the housings. Also, when the engine is taken apart for a busted apex seal/coolant seal the parts aren't worn nearly as bad. Ask me how I know this. But hey go ahead and change your oil every 3000 miles I know better.

maduhbee 10-16-05 01:04 PM

royal purple 10w 30, i heard idemitsu is good too (made specifically for rotaries) but i'm using the mobil 1 oil filter (exp!!!!) changed about every 1-1.5k

just wondering, when you switch how did you go about getting all the exsess standard oil out? I have a r1 (dual oil coolers) and have been wanting to switch to syn. I was just wondering how you went about it. or was it just a pain to do so. draining you cooler(s) ect.

Drain the oil like normal and add synthetic. It will be completely flushed after a couple of changes.

FD3SR1 10-17-05 12:52 PM

isnt it bad to mix syn. and non-syn?

:) Sorry, I don't believe you :D 1500 miles between oil changes is ridiculous. I put over 100K on my last street ported 13B (non turbo). I beat the crap out of that engine. When it was torn down because of worn apex seals, the rest of the engine was in very good shape. Like I said before, changing oil at 1500 miles is a waste of time and money. You may prefer to be extra cautious, but it really isn't necessary.
