Arrow Weight Reduction - Putting the rx7 on a diet...What have you done?

Every car can benefit from weight redution even a car as light as the rx7.
so...
i wanted to bring up one of my favorite topics from the 350z forums and since we dont have an Official one on rx7club.com i started my own. (im new here but was on there for a few years).

O! Guy lets please leave out the "use the search function" comments because those get really old. These sites are for discussions so.... lets have one.

I want to know what everyone been doing to lighten there ride and also it is very useful when people post up pictures(and captions) of stock and aftermarket items and their weights so others can compare parts.

If you get a chance to have your car weighed or corner balanced post it here with a list of modifications done.

You could buy my lightweight Odyssey PC625 battery which only weighs 13.2 lbs and relocate it to your passenger bin. This will save you over 15lbs with a single mod.

I remember that sexeh blue beast! You sold it right after I joined/started lurking... how much did you end up letting her go for, if I may ask?

And to the OP... two BEST ways EVAR to do what you want are to A) Search... or B) stop eating (4 weeks should be good) and/or stop drinking water (2 weeks should be plenty)..

Billy Mayes AND George Foreman BOTH guarentee this will lower your curb weight quickly, effectively, and (most importantly) ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!! That's right! Act now for maximum effect

Start deleting emissions crap - two cats, air pump, etc - good for 100 lbs easy

Some people delete the spare wheel, but I still have my original (why the yellow paint?)

Ok, all kidding aside, here is my serious post:

Over the past couple years I have deleted my pre-cat, main-cat (free-flow mid), gone with an ARC Titanium cat-back (thanks Bryan!) Ripped out the A/C, traded the battery for an Odyssey PC680, swapped to a vented CF hood, completely deleted the AST...um, I'm sure there are one or two other things that may effect weight, but none of it matters.

I have not done any of that specifically with weight loss in mind. EVERYTHING was done to increase performance or reliability. Any weight loss which may have occured (I've not even weighed the car) was purely a side effect.

Focus on reliability first, power/performance/handling second, and weight reduction will happen on its own. I would only focus on stripping the car down to reduce weight if you are going for a serious track only approach, and you should only be doing that when you have enough knowledge of the vehicle that a thread like this isn't needed. Aka, when you're ready, you won't need to ask.

Stumbled on this thread as I was looking for additional weight loss ideas for a track-only project, thought I'd share my starter spreadsheet...

A lot of my numbers are rounded for simple math - It's not exact to the oz or even lb but the general idea is there. Of course, you'll have to add back in all the things you put INTO the car like wheels/tyres/brakes/cage/etc.

Dunno if this helps anyone, but figured id share :-) My car currently weighs in at 2574, I've done about 3/4 of this list, and may never do some of the items due to cost or time/lb saved. I am working on getting the car below 2500... almost there :-)

July 30-31 Hopefully, with Chin ... The only thing I'd really like to do right now is get the oil cooler ducting finished. Everything else can wait. Thinking about starting a "build thread" so to chronicle my incredibly slow progress and possibly inspire me to actually finish things.

that may be just the dash minus the reinforcement--just the plastic, foam and vinyl. or something like that.

My list isn't meant to be an indication of what each item weighs, it's an approximation of how much weight I believe I saved in line wiht my modification. In the case of my car, I removed the dash but I added a thin sheet aluminum dash to replace it and placed numerous gauges/switches/etc on that dash that will deduct from the overall weight.

The list was to answer the question "what have you done" in the initial post. I unfortunately didn't weigh everything as I took it out so my numbers arent exact. But to give you an example of how I came to the numbers I have ...

Dash about 60lbs
-Gauges/AIM Dash added, 5lbs
-Switches/wiring added, 5lbs
-Aluminum sheet/Mounting Hardware 10lbs
-Wiring Harness kept - 5lbs
-----
reduction 35 lbs.

I'm curious too. Isn't it a little over 2,800lbs. in stock trim? 240+ lb. weight loss is pretty substantial.
