Weight Reduction Part VI Results.

Well, I removed the following today. I don't drive my car in bad weather so I don't need it.

1. Sound Deadening Tar under carpet.
2. Rubber sound deadening behind dash on the firewall.
3. All Sound deadening Lint.
4. All of the rubber and foam backing on the carpet.
5. Heater core
6. A/C Core
7. Blower Motor
8. Ducting
9. Airbag computer and wiring
10. Misc

Stupid me forgot to bring a weight scale over so I'll weight it all on tuesday. All of the sound deading material filled up a yard waste bag to the top (4 feet tall).

I wouldn't be suprised if it weighs around 75 lbs. It's pretty darn heavy.

How did you take out the sound Deadening. I know its possible but its like a thick black glue isnt it?

CowsniperRX7 05-07-06 05:44 PM

Say goodbye to your hearing!!!

That is a lot of crap gone!

Narfle 05-07-06 05:44 PM

dry ice or a heat gun and a putty knife are good options^

purerx7 05-07-06 06:40 PM

in your sig, you say your car weights 2,295lbs, is that including driver?

I'll be interested to see the results on this.

Got pictures of the sound deadening stuff?

The thick black glue that the one guy above described is the tar right?

I removed the sound deadening with a flat head screw driver and a hammer. Mine came off in chucks the side of a football. I didn't need dry ice or anything.

My last weigh in was 2,295 without me in it of course.

Thanks for the INFO been a lot of help, I guess its time to take off the dash.
Is there anything I should leave on so rain wont come in? There might be a day were I have to drive it in teh rain. (if my honda breaks down)

I've still got my interior in my car and even the stereo.......... There are always ways to lighten your ride.

Some take it more serious than others :)

LUPE 05-09-06 11:41 AM

All of the sound deadening weighed 34 lbs.

All of the Heater and A/C stuff weighed 29 lbs.

Combine weight lost on this diet is 63 lbs :)

So......... my car should weigh 2.232 lbs now :)

DAMN! thats a crazy light fd. good job lupe. your ride is always inspiring

I have a lot of friends that drive 240sx's for drifting and they are addicted to gutting them. The best way to remove the sound deadening material is dry ice. Buy a few lbs of it and just place it on top of the stuff for a while. Let the material freeze then chizel it off with a hammer and a sharp edge. It should come off clean and in chunks. For smaller areas or hard to read, a heat gun could work, but its messy as anything.

KaiFD3S 05-09-06 02:22 PM

That is one light FD.....

USCmatt 05-09-06 02:47 PM

It would be blasphemy if there wasnt a Part '7'

Wow!!! I just can't imagine what you had to do for that weight.

Is your given weight with an empty gas tank?

My goal is to retain the creature comforts, just in case I want to sell the car in the future... the market may be real limited for too gutted cars. Also, being a road racer at heart I need the big sway bars, big wheels, suspension etc. Getting rid of the AC is also probibitive for much of the summer we're over 100 F degrees at around my neck of the woods. This car is not going to see race track duties, just some fast, open twisties in my neighborhood mountain roads.

So, I am dieting my car, pound by pound and are down to 2685 lbs (Touring model) with 7 gallons of gas in the tank, stock wheels and tires size. I need to drop those Kuhmo tires that came with the 17 inch Forgeline wheels and replace them with either a Pirelli P Zero Rosso or Michelins Pilot PS2 as they are 7 and 6 lbs lighter per tire. That would put them pretty close to being on par with the stock wheel/tire weights.

I feel pretty much maxed out as far as what I want to stay on the car and what I can part with. Maybe an other 20 lbs but, that seem to be about it.

Albert

Mine was weighed with close to 3/4 tank of gas. I'm keeping everything that I've taken off just in case I want to sell it in the future.
