weighed the FD last night. what do yours weigh?
well i took the FD to the pilot truck stop last night and used the CAT truck scale that is certified to weigh within a pound. i barely had any gas; i filled it up AFTER weighing and figured out that i had 2.3 gallons of gas in the tank when i weighed it.
my car is a base model with no sunroof and no bose, 5speed, mods are intake and full exhaust with hiflow cat. car still has AC and spare. 2687 lbs it was actually 2720 on the scale with an extra set of stock turbos in the back. we took them out and weighed them at 33lbs, so 2720-33 =2687lbs this seems awfully light... what do your FD's weigh? |
wow, that's amazingly light...about 100 lbs shaved off. I think avg. stock FDs are like 2800 something: http://www.rx7.net.nz/usspec.htm
Not many cars out there that light w/ tons of performance. |
wow, thats pretty feckin light. Is it like the touring models that weigh 28XXlbs? I wonder how much my R1 weighs, anyone have some corner weight scales they want to let me borrow? :D. I always thought FD's were a few hundred lbs more.
|
are the specification weights always listed with X amount of gas or with a dry tank?
also, i have a custom full exhaust, which probably weighs alot less than stock, but i'm not sure exactly how much... i dunno |
curb weight is no passengers and an empty tank. GVW is comfortably seating X passangers (depends on car, 2 for the usdm FD), full luggage compartment, and a full tank of gas.

you guys said different things about the weight and gas in the tank. which is it?

Curb weight
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Curb (kerb) weight is the total weight of an automobile with standard equipment, motor oil, coolant, a full tank of fuel and not loaded with either passengers or cargo. This definition may differ from definitions used by governmental regulatory agencies. Additionally, organizations may define curb weight with fixed levels of fuel and other variables to equalize the value for the comparison of different vehicles. It is generally provided as a statistic about automobile weights, along with gross weight and gross vehicle weight rating, which represents the weight of an automobile when fully loaded. The difference between gross weight and curb weight is the total passenger and cargo weight capacity of the vehicle. Note that curb weight is different from dry weight. |
Last time I weighed my FD on the HMMWV scale at Fort Hood, it was around 2650 with 1/4 tank. No cats, no a/c, no p/s.
|
Mine weights roughly 2300lbs
Of course.. my motor is out of the car. |
2680 with 1/2 tank and an LS1
|
Damn, thats exactly what i was looking for weight wise when i put my ls1 in. :D Except mine is the R1 model with no sunroof or bose.....
And a lil side note, what fender flares are those on the back. Even better, could you send me all the info on your car? So i can get some ideas for mine? haha

stock cat and pre-cat likely adds 80 lbs to the car |

I'm surprised lupe hasn't jumped in this thread advertising his car for sale with some weight comment and a link haha
|
My 94 base with full exhaust system and no power steering or A/C was 2714 on the weight scales. I don't remember how much gas I had at the time.
|
the stock main cat is somewhere around 70 lbs on it's own...
and it hurts when it lands on you. trust me. didn't realize one of my rubbers had snapped... |
I just had my car weighed while it was smogged. It weighed in at 3125 pounds with a full tank of gas and a 160 pound person in it. My car is also stock except for a downpipe and radiator.
|
I had a '94 base that weighed in at 2760 with 1/2 tank and the only significant weight saving mod being a downpipe.
|
My fd weighs 2720. I have no idea how much gas i had in it. But thats pretty damn light! I have single turbo, greddy fmic and all the stuff you would assume with that setup lol. No PS or AC

Stock main cat is somewhere around 40 pounds or so.
I went to go find that link which listed the weights of just about every component on the FD (mantissa consulting page) but it's down :( |
33.5 lbs per Gene Felber, 30 lbs per Max Cooper (I have a hard copy).
|
Man, you guys are way light............. I need to drop some weight off my pig !!!
|
R2, ~2700 nearly stock
'95 R2: 2740lbs with a FULL tank of gas, nearly stock everything except replaced muffler with cat-back stainless 3" T304 pipe (spare tire out)
|
Some of you guys need to go to the gym if you think the stock pre-cat and main cat weigh over 80 lbs....and this is coming from a 5'7" guy weighing a buck-30. :)
|
1994 Base model, with 30-50lbs of weight reduction mods (PC680 battery, DP, removed cruise control).
2691 lbs with about 10 gallons of fuel in the tank. Spare tire and jack were removed also. For corner weights and other info, check here: https://www.rx7club.com/race-car-tech-103/had-my-fd-corner-weighed-advise-comments-suggestions-430565/ |
Here is how mine read on the scale before I removed 80+ Lbs.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...DSCN0159-1.jpg its not totally gutted, i'll give you that. you have a kirkey racing seat, no passenger seat, a gutted back half, no power steering, no AC, insanely light weld wheels and skinnies, a solid rear axle, a single turbo, a straight exhaust, 4link rear suspension, etc. obviously your car is nowhere near stock weight, doesnt even have the stock back half of the drivetrain in it, and is nothing like the majority of the others' FDs in this thread, so why even post in here. yet another excuse to get some attention to try to sell your car and post pictures of it all over the place? |

I have a aftermarket seat, so everyone with a aftermarket seat has a race car? I pulled the passenger seat out, that must make it a racecar? I pulled my a/c and powersteering, that must make it a racecar. My accord doesn't have AC, that must make it a racecar. So, I have light wheels, that must make it a racecar? I have a upgraded rear end, that must make it a racecar? I have a single turbo, upgraded suspension and a apex-i N1 exhaust, that must make it a racecar. So, everyone who has a car that's lighter, faster and more modified car that YOURS is a racecar? All cars faster than YOURS are is a racecar? Any car not built under a tree in a backyard by an idiot making less per hour than YOU is a cheating, professional race car? Any racer who willingly spends more money than YOU has a racecar? Any racer whose vehicle works better than YOURS has a racecar? My car weighed 2,300 LBS when it looked like this, it was a racecar also? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...m/untitled.bmp http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...atham/a947.jpg |

yeah. next time i'll be sure to explicitly state that drag cars with solid rear axles, weld wheels, skinnies and a gutted hatch dont need to post. also, yeah, your car is a racecar because it performs better than mine; that is exactly what i was trying to say. your balls are bigger than mine, your car is faster than mine in a straight line and i hope someone buys it. |
I'm very impressed at how much weight LUPE took out of his car, even though I'm not a fan of the drag-racer rear end. Everything else looks really good, and I'd love to hear about some of your 'secrets.' I've heard of Miata racers going as far as trimming the lengths of bolts, or even drilling them hollow.
LUPE, what's causing your left side to be heavier than the right? The turbo and exhaust are mounted on the right side of the car, I doubt the seat weighs more than those two things combined. -s- |
just for fun i weighed my 94 touring with a full tank of gas, back up fluids(qt. of oil and gal. of coolant)in the trunk, and me (218lbs.), 3160lbs.. looks like my fd and i need to lose some weight. lol
|
no offense lupe but i liked your car alot more in those other pics.
how much rwhp was it making at that stage in the game? |
