We have a rotary representing us in the 2013 Modified Street Car Shootout!

Hey guys,

Some great news for the rotary community:

Bobby Poage has entered his SSM 20B monster in this year's Modified Magazine competition

His username here on the forum is vincentrx7, here is one link to check out:

https://www.rx7club.com/20b-forum-95/748whp-542-tq-%40-19-psi-93-octane-988771/

Bobby can chime in with the details of his FD, but I know it's a ~750 rwhp 20B that was built by Zavier and rx7store. He's also sponsored by IRP, both with assistance on his shiny new Fikse wheels and tech help over the telephone

He's busy getting ready for the event as it's happening in less than two weeks. As a community I think it's an awesome idea to pull together to raise money to help Bobby trailer his FD from Georgia out to Arizona for the event. His effort is very grassroots and Bobby will be going head to head with some serious heavyweights. He's expecting fuel costs of over $1500 for the round trip.

For anyone who would like to donate (no amount is too small!) I've opened up a paypal account specifically for this event: Bobby20BModifiedShootout@yahoo.com :icon_tup:

All proceeds will go directly towards diesel fuel :D

I know that Phil Sohn/Herblenny and Kevin/ZGN from RCC have already donated money, so thanks for that guys!

Thanks Rich. Any help would be appreciated. It is about 4200 miles round trip and at times I think I am crazy for going. However, I built this car to try to have an all around street car. I wanted a 10 sec car that would be competitive at the road track and autocross. In addition, I wanted to be able to drive it on the street like making the 3 hour drive to Deals Gap like I did last year. So, when this opportunity came up, I decided to make the trip.
They provide all the competitors with a set of Continental Extreme Contact tires and everything else is up to you. I'm having to put a Catalytic Converter on to comply with the rules. It should be a lot of fun,( except for the 31 hr 1 way drive hauling a car). I want to represent the Rotary world well!

You can count me in for $20. I'll paypal it tomorrow

Good luck
:)

Hey Bobby, I'm in. Just sent $100 via Paypal. Bummed that I couldn't make it but very happy for you. I'm slotted in for next year so you are paving the way. Looking forward to your success and to hearing about it at DGRR. Need to learn from you :)

Congrats! We had a car in the event last year, and covered the event person too. I will talk to my team and see how we can help. Good luck regardless.

Very bad idea , I dont trust those car shippers , every car i've had shipped they have broken a bumper , or even destroyed my friends radiator

I have used the same guy for the last 30-40 cars....as long as they carry insurance you are fine. Plus he lives about an hour from me so I can go find him if need be lol

JBF 03-04-13 12:33 PM

Just sent over $20. Good luck!

RogueFab 03-04-13 02:02 PM

Excellent! Thanks Vincent. Can't wait to see the issue and vid coverage.

vincentrx7 03-05-13 08:16 AM

I really appreciate the support. Every $20 adds up. I did follow-up with Allrotor and verified that I couldn't ship my car out and back and get a flight for less than $1000. I didn't want people to think I would be wasting money.

Bobby... Do you need tires? What sizes?

Gordon

Continental supplies everone with the tires. This keeps the competition on equal footing....pun intended.LOL

You are welcome and yes, I will be ready by then. We think the wiring issues are diagnosed and waiting on a part back from Haltech to test and verify. Then it's tuning and I am good to go.

Kick some piston butt and I look forward to hearing all about it. Do you have a driver for the event? RCCAZ 1 (Tim) is out that way and has a driver I was going to use.

I am driving the autocross and drag race for sure. My brother might drive the time attack. We'll see if he is faster than me during practice.

David Hayes 03-06-13 08:36 AM

^ Sweet, that will be lot's of fun for you guys. And on the plus side of having to run the Continentals, you'll now have a fresh set of tires for your use and to avoid hydroplaning all over the place :icon_tup:

David Hayes 03-06-13 09:38 AM

Okay guys, I see a lot of "views" on this thread but not enough "cash" support. Come on, fork over a few bucks so Bobby can do us proud at the event!

rx7rcer09 03-06-13 09:39 AM

Congrats Bobby, show them what a little 2 liter can do. im so glad to say this car was born in Ohio and that ive done some work on it, its by far one of my favorite FD's

Ceylon 03-06-13 09:45 AM

Look forward to pics/vids & write up :icon_tup:

Any links to more info on your car?

Cheers

If you had them now you could be setting your suspension up to work with them and figuring out what tire pressures you like!

Its going to be sketchy on those all season Contis, you need time to correct for it.

Its really stupid they are hobbling tuned performance cars with a tire that is worse than any oem would think about putting on a new sports car, but I guess that's sponsorship.

Let me know if for some reason you need an autocross driver. I work with a 2 time national champ who could possibly assist. He has experience with rotaries. Either way is fine. May come out to the Dyno and track sessions to lend some moral support as well!

RCCAZ 1 03-06-13 02:55 PM

Just donated $$$$ Thanks for the reminder!

GoodfellaFD3S 03-06-13 03:34 PM

Guys, we're at $210 from four generous members. We need more small donations from a large group of guys. Feel free to add this thread to your sig :patriot:

Stix37867 03-06-13 08:14 PM
