Wastegate/engine removal Q/problem
2 Attachment(s)
So this is my first time removing an engine and I keep running into problems.
It seems as though when the previous ovner put the motor in he decided it would be a good idea to weld the nuts holding the wastegate on right to the flange. I thought no big deal, I can remove it from the manifold, but after some effort I found no way to remove those bolts because they are allen key and their position is impossible to get to with that tool. So my question is this, should I just hack the pipe with a sawzall? and if so should I cut as close to the wastegate as possible, or where it meets the downpipe? First pic is the briliant welding, second is where it meets the DP. |
no input from anyone? I need to get this motor out.

Can you get an air chisel and remove the nuts by chiseling them apart?
It might be best to simply cut the wastegate pipe somewhere in the middle with a sawzall and then have the pipe remade. This would be best if you are in a hurry to remove the engine. |
If I had an air chisel I might give it a shot, but the workingspace is so limited. Cutting it inbetween would probably work best, then I'm not stuck with a nub on either end to work with later.Chances are, I will be getting a new wastegate in the near future so having to just reweld the pipe until then wouldn't kill me.
I'll be giving this a shot in the next few days, When it is out I will get a better pic of the geat welding. |
