Hey bro unless you really have deep pockets it takes patience and time to build up a FD. Remember its always better to do it right the first time around. You are on the right path, but your mods will depend on which FD you choose to buy. Like the oil coolers if you choose a r1 or r2 it will already come with dual oil coolers. And as far as replacing the motor, you might not have to do that. Again dependent on which FD you buy and what #s you want to achieve. I know alot of forum members making good hp #s on stock seals and ports safely. It has alot to do with good tuning and with corresponding mods to support. I would suggest you use the search function on the forum to its fullest before you buy. And if you can't find your answer, just ask. You might get flamed for some questions by some members, but overall we all are willing to help. The FD is a money pit plain and simple. It takes a certain type of person to own a FD, and it helps if you have deep pockets to cover any unexpected mechanical problems. If you are young I hope you have the support ($) of your parents. Take your time looking and researching. Not being affraid to ask is most important. I would hate to see you jump in waste deep with a lemon. It appears you already started researching so thats good. Remember what ever FD you choose PLEASE DO A COMPRESSION TEST before you buy! Good luck..!!

I suggest you come back after you actually have an FD and have gotten used to driving it and have any maintenance issues sorted out.

thanx all of you, and yeah i do want an r1 or r2 out of all the models so that saves for the oil coolers thanx for that 1 93fd3s...and the numbers im looking for are about 400hp on the motor not at the wheels and i want it to last thats why i put the ported motor and the 3mm seals....id be very pleased with that....so with all that i have listed do u think 400 is atainable and safe if properly maintained, and if u guys know cheaper ways then by all means tell me...

If you are patient, there are plenty modded comparably to what you wrote in the for sale section now and then, plus it will save you a HUGE chunk of change to buy one already modded....plus all that extra cash can be used to sort out the gremlins.

More things you might need.... performance tires, upgraded brakes or at least good pads and SS lines, rear bushings, motor mounts, upgraded clutch, boost and temp gauge. And no matter what car you buy you need to account for Murphy's law. So it would be smart to budget in 1-2k just to fix all the little problems that pop up after you buy.
Also remember you can buy used parts. A downpipe for example can be found for 100-150 (i got one for $30 actually)... so for things like exhaust, intercooler, etc you could save a lot going with used stuff. And I think PFC + commander sells in the $700 range new now. Doesnt it? |

Buy a car first. Worry about what to put on it later. |

The reason people say get the car and then figure what mods is that we have had a LOT people in the past jump on here with "mod lists" for a car they don't own and never get. Here's an example: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/thinking-getting-rx-7-mod-list-86076/ Get the car, then people will take you seriously about how to mod the car... |
I second that.
Scare yourself with the power it has now before you build a 400rwhp fire breathing beast- it could save your life. |
i guess you are right about getting a car first thanx for all you guys input....i guess we can let this die...but if i do get one that isnt modded i will the the way of the BNR stage 3's...and if not ill buy one thats already single...

and btw i already have a car with some power so im used to it...1995 Firebird Formula 41Xrwhp 48Xrwtq

Different ends of the spectrum bro. Can't compare, you'll see what I'm talking about when you drive a maintained FD.

just don't forget u'll need to do reliability mods first before any of the most you listed, if the car hasn't already got them replaced. they're all listed in the FAQ. good luck w/ the find

I agree with Rynberg - buying this car with HP numbers in mind is putting the cart waaaayyy before the horse. Looking to do it economically is simply silly. You want 400hp cheap? Buy a domestic. Don't want a domestic, buy a Supra or Honda. Dave |

How do you know you need 400hp to enjoy this car? Have you driven a stock 3rd Gen and thought to yourself "damn this thing is slow"?
These cars are plenty of fun with 255hp and a good set of tires. I've added a downpipe, boost gauge, and performed a couple of minor cooling system upgrades because I want to enjoy driving without worrying about engine longevity. -s- |
Trust me im a big fan of the FD and have been for about 2 years now, and just from reading on here i know wat i want, like my dream scenario is to have a car just like rich's when he had the BNR's...
