Upgraded Twins Dyno Results........

OK, this is premature, but I really excited for SPOAutos and Artguy on their accomplishments so far..... It's new territory and not the easiest to tune.

While we wait for them to get results to post on this thread I was curious to see what ur thoughts would be if they do push the 400+ RWHP mark and even into the mid 450RWHP territory.......

For those of u that are considering upgrading ur turbos, would u consider a BNR or ball bearing upgrade or would u head towards the Single turbo direction?

I can feel the excitement growing on the dyno results by many........ it's almost tantamount to the time man took his first steps on the moon (not that it ever happened ;) )

I'd like to upgrade my twins...BNR upgrade would be cheaper than the '99-spec...

the_glass_man 01-15-03 11:58 AM

Well as of yet, there is no numbers or sheets, I think upgraded stockers would be hard pressed to break the 400rwhp mark. Many other factors come into play with high horsepower numbers, tuning, porting, other parts, dyno used, boost, gas, etc...
When and if my turbo's ever go, I'm going the single BB route. Quick spooling, less to go wrong and can make boat loads of power. People have been pulling 400 rwhp @15 psi on stock engines with the GT3540, which is pretty good if you ask me.

Guess I'll have to wait and see for the numbers. :)

RX7Elmo 01-15-03 12:16 PM

Originally, i would go with the GT35/40 since it has quick spoolup, reliable, simple, and has good high end power. yet if there is a more cost effective alternative, i would go wtih that route. THere is also something cool about opening your hood and it still looks 'stock'. It would be a plus for smogging here in CA and you can still retain the airpump.

Are there GT35/40 or RX6B kits that retain the airpump available now? Without that option, they are almost certainly emiminated from my wish list... and i have little desire to try and rig something up with a GM electric airpump or other such stuff.

For the love of god please post

The new Apex'i kits retain the airpump, I'm not sure if the GT3540 kit does, but it shouldn't be to hard to get a manifold made that will clear the airpump. My advice is get out of the Nazi state while you still can. :D

two smaller turbines running in parallel which could deliver quick spool up, possibly by 3000-3500 rpm, while pumping out 400-450 hp, would be awesome indeed....if that becomes reality, I'll be tempted....otherwise, the streamlined, high flow manifold of a single turbo makes alot of sense to me

I think you need to take a ride on a Yamaha R1 sometime, batman :)

Take a look at the HKS kits then, they all retain the airpump AFAIK. I would never buy an Apexi or Greddy kit in the US simply because it is nearly impossible to get parts or a rebuild for the turbo in the country.. HKS kits use Garrett units.

Just bought a house in the Nazi state, so i'm here for a while...

plus the good economy here allowed me to draw a decent salary and not get laid off during the recession. I feel bad for you Cali folks, you got screwed both ways...

Regs are only gonna get tighter around the country, so if you're in a major metro are, i'd start planning for this.

Jason 01-15-03 01:25 PM

The Greddy turbos are rebuildable and upgradable. The Apexi turbo is not.

Don't be so sure...Here in Florida my blown engine timing was perfect. Some congressman got sore about about waiting in line some 2 years ago and sent a bill that passed to repeal the emissions checks in 2002 (maybe 2001 too).

I've kept a HF Cat for other reasons but I doubt I'd pass emissions with my setup.

Then you end up with a Garrett T78. :)

ptrhahn 01-15-03 01:56 PM

I figure, emisions be damned, i might as well run a airpump and HF cat... a friend of mine w/ stock motor, RX6B, HiFlo, and PFS catback was sighted for noise violation.. hes since switched to a RB catback. No point in trying a midpipe w/ a single T.

And give up the best climate in the world?

Right now it is 65 - 70 degrees and very sunny outside....

No humidity BS.....

Tell me where I can find a mild climate like that in the world?

It might look funny with Batman behind YZF-R1 on a bike....

Not very Christian ;)

Besides, u have determined that I am an agent of the devil and i might drive by the nearest cliff and eject me off the bike seat.........

Costa Rica my friend but your FD would never last......barring that Florida if you can stand the so called humidity everyone complains about but I have yet to notice in 20 years. And no emissions now.

hey guys, youre gonna turn this thread into the other thread if you keep on posting. :D

Yeah............ ok back to the topic......

Vintage Red Touring 01-15-03 02:32 PM

I'm very interested in the dyno sheets from those running upgraded twins. I would definitely like to stay as "stock" appearing as possible, and if these set ups can produce 400+ reliable rwhp, while spooling quickly, I'm all over it!

ptrhahn 01-15-03 02:42 PM

Don't hold your breath... in the several months that these have been talked about, not one sheet has been posted with a figure north of 400 hp in any config. There must be no Kinkos south of Washington DC.... as someone could have snail-mailed me their sheet, and i could have driven to the nearest kinkos, scanned it, and mailed the sheet back in this amount of time.

vosko 01-15-03 02:52 PM

i think my 416rwhp @ 13psi with my T78 is pretty nifty..... why would i bother with OEM turbos ?

SPOautos 01-15-03 02:57 PM

Fuck, I've got it on disk but its too big and the forum wont let me load it up....its 1.43MB

Can someone help me out or tell me what I can do to get it on here??? If someone can host it or something shoot me a email, my email is SJWhite2000@aol.com

Is this link working???

http://community.webshots.com/script...ecurity=OMBUZR

Felix Wankel 01-15-03 03:08 PM

You have to go to the public page first. Not the control panel. Then when you do that, it won't let you link to it.

I have a Webshots account. They kind of suck. I can compress it some with Photoshop and post it here if you want...
