twin 2 inch mufflers???
 
hey guys. got a almost stock fd with power fc and just wondering if i did my exhaust a full 3 inch the entire way and right at the back split it into twin 2 inches into twin 2" inlet mufflers. i like the look of 2 smaller mufflers compared to a big one.

any thoughts?

Yeah, it would be a bad idea. Two 2" pipes flow less than one 3" pipe. And the split would further cost you flow from turbulence.

I'm going to have to disagree with Rynberg on this one. The two 2" pipes have a combined area equal to a 2.82" diameter pipe (about 72mm). While I agree that a split can introduce turbulence, it's effect on flow is going to be minor--negligible. The exhaust you describe will have more flow potential than you are likely to need.

So it seems reasonable to me. If this is what you want to do, then do it.

If you're talking about running a dual exhaust in back, it's going to be a pain since the gas tank is in the way on the left side.

If you're simply talking about running a pair of pipes side-by-side in the stock location, I think your results will be substantially better than stock, but not quite as free-flowing as a single 3" pipe. The cross-sectional area of the pipe will be similar, but the reynolds number (turbulence) will be higher because the flow will be more fully developed. How much difference it will make in hp is hard to say, but it should still work a whole lot better than stock.

excellent. yeah twin mufflers coming out of the right side. might try 2.25 and just flaring the inlets of the mufflers.

my car came with a blitz cannon and although it sounds awesome its just too big for my tastes.

Well, power wise... probably. Looks wise, or sound wise though... not at all.

Two 2" outlets will sound very different than 1 3" or 3.5" outlet will. Obviously they will look different as well, and if thats the look you are after then of course it makes sense.

I thought I'd add that the tips in that picture are twin 3" tips coming from 2.5" outlet mufflers. Just in case you wanted some type of size reference for what you are wanting to do.

I'll be doing that too. HKS 76mm downpipe into dual running 60mm tubing with dual 60mm runner muffler in the stock cat location proceeding to the back with same dual running setup into a catback dual runner muffler (0mm) ending in dual tips or 1 big single (oval).

dual 60 should flow more than te single 3" (70mm) I had before and should keep noiselevels way lower than the 3" because of the smaller tubing (resonance factor).
