mine's being a bastard to get off. can't get a wrench in there well enough cause of the fins being in the way. the bolt head is so thin that a socket won't work. only half of the actual nut gets grabbed because of the way the socket tapers in and it just wants to strip it.

any magic way you rx-7 gods have of getting it off? i soaked it in PB for like an hour and still nothin.

 

Man, it sounds like someone really torqued it on there. What are you using to try to loosen it, a wrench?, What kind? It requires a 23-24mm socket if I recall. I used a medium sized ratchet with a 5-6" extension and had no problems. Is the bolt head rounded off?

 

If the bolt head isn't too rounded off to grap, I recommend getting a big pipe

 

i used the half socket trick and it worked fine

have you tried using a 6 point socket? I could see it striping with a 12 point, but if you can squeeze a 6 point on there you'd be set.

 

the only reason i used a socket was because i couldn't find the correct wrench. i of course found it after i was done

 

i just did mine last week using the box (closed) end of a regular 23 mm wrench and a soft head hammer to knock it loose. the open end doesnt work because the fins are in the way as you said. I got the wrench from sears for $15. Not every sears has it though, you should try calling in advance or checking their website. If your fill plug is already stripped then maybe you need a 6 point closed end as somebody already suggested. good luck.

 

ya i tried a wrench but the open end doesn't work obviously. the 12 point end on the socket would fit but it felt like it wanted to strip so i didn't force it. the nut head seemd too thin to use a socket on. i was using a 6 point socket too but it didn't want to seat on there. and the way it tapers in started to strip the points off because it wasn't grabbing much meat on the nut.

i also tried a 15/16s socket which seemd to fit a little better (i heard someone say it worked better for them too).

gah, oh well. guess i'll get back under there this week and have at it some more.

i used a boxed ended wrench got from Sears, sockets won't get in there. the wrench that I got has a bent so it clears those fins.
