Timing Mark Question

I'm reassembling my motor.. and had a couple of questions. When I went to put my CAS plate back on the crank, I noticed it can go on two ways.. I dont want to put it on backwards... I would also like to know if anyone can tell me how to put my crank at TDC.. Is it by lining up the dot on the crankshaft to the pin on the front housing... and once you do that which way does the CAS plate face... Thank you for any info you can give... or direct me to site that has this info.. Thanks
