Ti exhaust worth it?

I'm starting to lean towards a full ti exhaust, such as Greddy's or Apex'i, but I was just wondering if the weight savings are really worth it? I can't find sound clips of either, so if anyone has any experience with these, that too would be appreciated. I'd like to find an Amuse exhaust, just for the rarity, but I've been told they're super expensive, so that's probably out. What do you guys think?

MakoRacing 10-15-06 03:21 PM

my greddy Ti is stupid loud, and its not worth it unless your VERY seriously racing or something

ero_shinigami 10-15-06 03:27 PM

Magnaflow has a sound sample of their exhaust on their page. You can also look at their site.

DDagman 10-15-06 03:29 PM

I have a Racing Beat exhaust and i love it. I have freinds with both Apexi and Greddy exhaust and honestly, a cop is on their ass almost ALL the time and all they have a is a catback. I have a downpipe and RB catback and it is pretty quiet unless you at WOT at which point i sounds awsome. Also Apexi exhaust, so Ive heard, are pretty bad quality. If you role up a piece of paper and bend it in half, look at how the center section gets sqaushed. I have heard the Apexi exhausts are made like that too. The Amuse exhaust is $1650. ide recomend the RB. Its nto too loud but it sounds nice at WOT. Also you wont have cops following you EVERYwhere you go

TheRxForSpeed 10-15-06 03:31 PM

I got the GReddy Titanium catback exhaust, i have a video on streetfire if you wanna hear it. It's not the best quality vid but check it out. I really like the exhaust and in my opinion with the stock midpipe cat it isn't that loud, unless you go wot all the time. I have only woke up my gf's parents once during summer with the windows open, but haven't yet since it's too cold to have the windows open

Btw, idk if sussex/menomonee falls cops are different but i've had some driving next to me and behind me and haven't got pulled over, knock on wood. and it's not a loud honda type sound but more of a exotic sound So just my two cents on the situation

Lisbon? New Lisbon? I'm in LaCrosse. If you put in a magnaflow muffler in the midpipe it'll sound like this.

i would buy the racing beat CB if the tips didn't look like they had muffler tips on them...i don't understand why they had to make it look like that

As far as the Apexi is concerned, are you sure your friend does not have just the muffler and had pipes made at the local muffler shop? All Apexi, Greddy, HKS, ect. exausts have mandrel bent piping which eliminates the crink in the bend.

gotparts? 10-15-06 08:12 PM

yea its worth it. weight savings plus power? what more can you ask for. i just put my greddy titanium on my fd and i love it. isnt too loud, no precat/stockmidpipe, but it has a nice hum to it.

There wont be a difference(well maybe 1hp?) between a greddy ti and another aftermarket exhaust..and the few lbs it saves isnt going to change much unless your car is a serious track car..theres a lot of other ways to loose weight on the car, or yourself lol So im just sayn go with what you want(sound wise) since theres really no differences between the exhausts.

Yeah.. I dunno what he's talking about. The GT is the best done SS exhaust I've ever seen in person as far as "craftsmanship" goes. I've had both the N1 and GT personally, and neither of them had any sketchy bends or welds.

And.. the majority of A'pexi and GReddy exhausts have big fat coffee can tips. They're flashy. The RB is pretty subtle as far as looks go. Might explain the cop situation.

Titanium = saweet.

Rex7-93 10-15-06 08:33 PM

hksusa.com has a sound clip of the hks ti on an fd, sounds pretty nice.

XxMerlinxX 10-15-06 10:44 PM

Yeah, but the HKS Ti isn't actually all Ti. It's just the can of the exhaust, where as on the GReddy and the Apex'i, it's all Ti, same with Amuse. I also don't like the sound of it much, which is what I'm trying to stay away from.

i have the Ti and i freaking hate it! it is hitting my bumper, melting it and the hanger is hitting the frame causing this gungfounded noise... yeah, and i cannot bend it back because its titanium.

sorry, rant over :balls:

TheRxForSpeed 10-16-06 10:45 AM

Isn't the hanger stainless steel, seemed that way to me when i installed and i remember reading it somewhere. I didn't have any fitment issues, yea it is a tad close to the bumper, haven't seen any melting issues but I only take her out on the weekeds.

greddy ti isnt that expensive. i just got mine brand new for 698 shipped. and a few pounds? try at least 20 pounds bud. it makes a difference. u can find a used greddy ti from 450-500 dollars.

TheRxForSpeed 10-16-06 11:18 AM

http://rx-7.com/ has a great price on the GReddy Titanium that's where i got mine from, ships fast, awesome service. I would recommend if you decide to get it, get it frm there. Still listed for 619 plus i think 35 or so for shipping if i remember right.

had to pay for tax since i live in texas :( so mine came out to be 698. but they do have the best price on that exhaust.

Rex7-93 10-16-06 12:32 PM

for the price of the hks ti it should be all titanium. $1300 thats crazy!

You're gonna have to stay away from the HKS Racing Ti, not available anymore (from what I was told) and it's a race exaust. It eliminates the cat and pre-cat. 4" piping for serious power, pretty light for being stainless and 4".

Yeah, that price is crazy. You would be even more crazy if you paid that for it! It's good to have friends in the industry......

Upgrayedd 10-16-06 03:01 PM

HKS Ti for $1300 ?! ?! Where are you looking?! The shop I go to sells it for $680 shipped. I had the choice between that or the HiPower for $400 and I wanted the HiPower cuz I don't like the burnt tip.

there a hks carbon ti and ti for that price. then there is the "full race 4 inch" hks model that they offer also. comes with a mid pipe that eliminates the cat. not the precat, the cat only. the hks full race is supposed to be fore high hp cars 600 plus i believe.

dradon03 10-16-06 03:07 PM

HKS Ti doesn't have a burnt tip, Greddy Ti does. HKS has a larger diameter of tubing and as stated is from the downpipe exhaust. The cat is very heavy so largest weight reduction gains are seen from having the HKS Ti. Now the few shops that stocked it that I have seen are selling it for 900$ and less.

For weight freaks yes it is worth it. For walet concious FD owners no it is not.

Upgrayedd 10-16-06 05:18 PM

The HKS Ti DOES have a burnt tip according to the pictures and when I have seen it IN PERSON on cars. But I'm not here to argue. Just wondering where these quotes are coming from... The $680 I was quoted was for the Titanium that I don't believe was the racing series with 4" pipes. I believe it was just the catback... Not sure though.

dradon03 10-16-06 05:51 PM

OHHH, you are talking about the HKS Carbon Ti not the same thing at all. The Carbon Ti aside from looks is not worth it at all you are paying for looks alone the it is a regular Hi power with a carbon wrapped canister and a titanium tip. 680$ shipping is actually real expensive for it Jason at rx7store.net sells it for 535$ + shiping which isn't a fortune. Cost me like 65$ of shipping and I am in Canada. Plus try and keep the business in the family;)

EUROX 10-16-06 06:09 PM

I have the Apexi N1 Titanium and I love it. It's pretty mellow to me, but then again I was running no muffler before. I like it in that it doesn't have that goofy flared trumpet tip that the Greddy Ti now has.

The HKS Carbon TI shouldn't even be considered when talking about titanium exhaust, as only the tip is titanium.

dradon03 10-16-06 08:38 PM

I personally like the rolled tip and find the extended tip to be a joke.

You are correct! My bad. I was thinking of the exaust bolted up to a downpipe which eliminates the pre-cat (the downpipe does).

Nah I'm talkin about the Ti. I'd never put a carbon Ti on my car. Don't like the look. The HKS Ti thru my shop has the burnt tip finish and is $680. There was a local car that had it here that I used to see every once in a while and his had that finish as well. Trust me, I'm an HKS freak!
