Things to do while engine is out?
My engine is out and being rebuilt. What should I be doing right now? balance injectors? radiator cleaning? What are the new parts (if any) I should be buying for the reinstall?
|
Soap, water and a tooth brush.. Clean the place up !
yeah, injectors. fuel hoses ( if old) and i would say inspect wiring |
As Want2Race said, it's time to clean, clean, clean! Better get out several brushes, knees pads, and numerous rags. Might want to get it steam cleaned since the engine is out of the way. Install a new radiator as opposed to reusing the old one. That way, you will not be flushing the old deposits that are in the old radiator back into your new engine.

*just because im in one of those weird moods today*
[stupidity] mount 3 gerbil wheels in your engine bay, run some hoses to them to look like the do something, then put a gerbil in each wheel and take a picture... it would be priceless, used for years like those other misc. funny forum pictures... or you could just say you have a 3 rotor :) [/stupidity] |
Where would we get those Gerbils STOKEDXIV, your room? hahaha

Send your UIM and alternator to Triple-T for polishing.:D

I have been doing all of the above while my engine is out.
1)I am cleaning the engine bay and touching up some paint scratches from previos engine installs. 2) I am sending out the injectors for a cleaning and blueprinting. The injectors are a bitch to remove. 3) I am upgrading to a 929 brake master cylinder 4)I had my 5th gear synchro replaced KD Rotary. 5)Cleaning out the coolant system for an Evans coolant install. 6) Touching up some polished parts(these parts need to be repolished every so often) Did I leave anyting out? 7) Oh yeah, I am converting my pump-less power steering to a manual one a la Bernd Kluessner. 8) I am getting rid of excess weight by removing unneeded parts such as the power steering pump bracket. |
If your planning on repainting it it would be a good time 2 do that as well...

Pulsation dampener while the injectors are out.
|
You know, I read up on the pulsation dampener thread in the second gen section - There is no third gen thread on this topic.
The third gen PD is different than the second gen one. Should this be replaced even if there is no sign of failure? Ed |
The only sign of failure really is fuel on your block, not that fun. If you have the extra cash I would say do it, If not maybe it will run fine. Mine went at about 62k, I had to remove the UIM, Alternator, Ing coils, solenoid rack, ACV and injectors. Also when the engine out it would be easier to pull out most of the screws... in the engine bay you have about 6" to work with before you hit the firewall. Not the best for leverage on a screwdriver, I stripped all my screws so I used vice grips to get them out.
