Stripping my block... what next?
 

Ok guys, this is the stage I'm at at the moment of stripping the block....

Question is... what now??

I've managed to get the front pulley off...

I was thinking that this cover....

comes off next, but I can't seem to get it off. I've undone all the bolts around it and also the ones on the sump around that area, but it still doesn't budge much.

Someone suggested the flywheel might need to come off to get that off??

You need to remove the front e-shaft bolt. After that, remove the flywheel then you can take off the front cover.

EDIT: Just to clarify, you don't need the flywheel off to take off the front cover. But you do need the front pulley assembly off with the e-shaft bolt.

I take it you have removed that big front pulley bolt? if you havent then you need that off then the pulley shaft should just slid off letting you remove the front cover. #if the front cover still wont come off then take the sump off the gasket cement will be holding the front cover ,plus the sump has to come off anyway.

Yeah, the big pulley with the big nut on it in the above pic has been removed.

I'll take the sump off next then and hopefully that cover will just come off.

After that am I right in thinking it's the flywheel, then start to take the block apart?

Yes, if you don't have the oil pan off, that will also hold the front cover in place. However, I would worry about getting the flywheel off before messing with the front cover.

Yep. The shop manual is your friend here - taking the main tension bolts out of the block has to be done in a proper order or you could warp housings. They also need to be slowly removed - break each one loose in order, give each one a half turn in order, then fully remove.

My local garage are going to buzz the flywheel off for me as I've heard it's a nightmare to get off!!

Oh well... I'll leave it as is until I take it to them as I don't have a 54mm socket at the moment anyway.

Yer ive struggled so many times with that stupid flywheel nut,,,,but a good impact makes it so easy,, let me know how you get on.

The OMP can come off any time. And I would remove those crank angle sensors ASAP too and put them in a safe place.

Along with the knock sensor...

Have your local shop remove the front 19mm bolt. That is the pain, the flywheel is a breeze. If that is an original engine, unless you have the necessary tools(heavy duty torch or insane impact gun) you will not be able to remove the front nut.

I got the front nut off with a lot of effort. It's the flywheel one that I'm getting the garage to do. Only because I don't have a 54mm socket.

If you don't want to invest in an engine stand adapter, consider dropping the pan and the oil pickup. It will keep the pan and oil level sensor from getting beat-up and probably make it easier to fool with the other stuff.

i was wondering.... is the nut on the flywheel same size on all of the engine?

On all different engines (ie, supra, skyline etc)? No... on 13B engines, yes.

Suspected coolant seal failure on this engine???,,, dont forget some pictures of the failure area im just curiouse.

I'll take pics of it all once it's apart.
