Strange headlight problem

Ok, with the new FD come new issues. Hopefully this one is easy to figure out. The headlights aren't turning on. By not turning on I mean they're not popping up or anything. Here's the strange thing.... The parking lights do turn on, the headlights do pop up if you press the button on the dash to make them pop up. Now once they're up if you flash the high beams the lights work but ofcourse don't stay on (just flashes the high beam). I figured it was a blown fuse but the parking lights shouldn't turn on and the high beams shouldn't flash right? I'm so confused. I feel dumb that I can do just about everything to the car but can't figure out little issues like this. I should also state that when I first got the car running last week the headlights did work and did pop up and turn on.

okay, check out pg Z-54 of your FSM, there are 2 relays that are associated to this circuit: it looks like you already verified one that works (located high left of diagram) the second is located on the upper right corner of the circuit. If it's not that relay, I would verify the switch itself.

I don't have an FSM or what you speak of. I take it it's some sort of manual that has the wiring diagram.

I had a similar problem, but instead the headlights would flip up and down over and over. The parking lights still worked.

Easy places to look
1) Fuses
2) Relays

Really hard place to look, that has failed before....
3) I don't know if you met Fritz w/ the SSM who graduated from UCF when we were still Seniors. I remember his solder contacts inside his light lever (lever hanging off the steering column, behind the steering wheel and opposite the wiper lever) actually fell out. So, he could do some things w/ the lever, but couldn't turn his lights on. He took the column apart and installed a new one. His name is Fritz... something, you can PM him.

Hope it's the relay

Thumbs up exact same problem

I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago. Mine turned out to be an open in the wire that goes from the headlight relay (near the battery) to the switch on the steering column. I "think" it was a yellow/blue wire. Anyway.... the open in the wire was in the wire loom inside the driver’s side front wheel well. Good luck. Michael

Raj I know John he actually pm'd me just the other day. He's going to be in town some time soon. That does sound like it would be my problem since we had been messing around in the steering colum because we were having start up issues and we thought it was the ignition switch. I'm gonna check it out in a bit.
