Storage Question
well im sorry to say it but my FD will not be getting on the road as soon as i had hoped. between work and other commitments the money seems to all be flowing into the 7 and leaving little to none left to everything else (this would have come sooner if i were still with my ex). but now im looking at a approximately 2 month delay on getting my car back together, for anyone unfamiliar with the progress here is my original/half-assed rebuild thread: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/last-minute-suggestions-anyone-745385/. well its time i get to my question i suppose....right now i have my rotor housings and freshly lapped and re-nitrided irons sitting on the workbench being exposed to all the garage elements (moisture, flying sparks from grinding and welding, and so on), so my question to all of you is, would i be better off finishing the rebuild and getting the sandwich together and store it with block off plates and maybe some sort of cover or just store the parts? i know that the assembly procedure uses either petroleum jelly or crisco (havent decided which yet) to hold seals and what not in place but will building the motor and not starting it for a few months cause problems? or am i better off storing the parts and just start stock piling some cash and go at it all at once when im better prepared?. thanks in advance guys for your suggestions
I would build the motor and then store it. However, I've seen several shops that just have parts up on shelves/desks that sit until they are needed. I don't think it would be a problem either way.
I don't see it as a big deal either way either.
If you decide to store the parts, I would just protect them from excessive moisture and dirt/dust. I had parts from old engines sitting in my garage for years and they never really showed any bad wear from it. Since you mention grinding and welding and stuff, I would just keep that debris away if you can.
