Stock tac not working

How does the stock tac get its RPM reading? Is it something from the transmission harness or is it from Trigger part of the engine harness?

I believe it all goes through the speedo first. I was having the same problem of my tach not working when my speedo would act up.

my speedo works just fine, I am not using the stock engine harness so I am not sure if the stock tac goes off the stock Trigger or it goes off something in the transmission?

I sent my gauges to Speedometer Repair and Odometer Repairs at Low Prices! Instrument Cluster Repair! to get fixed. My odometer, tach, speedometer all eventually quit working. I even had constant alarms from my water and oil gauges. They charged me 175 for the fix and that includes shipping.
