Stock mount or front mount intercooler ?
 

Hello all rotorfreaks ;o)

I am considering upgrading my stock intercooler as I now has done powerupgrade modifications to the motor, but I am no big car mechanic so it would be best for me to get a "bolt on" intercooler without having to do any or maybe just few modifications to the enginebay, frontbumber etc. who makes good "bolt on" intercoolers boath stock location and front mount location ?, if it IS possible to get a "bolt on" front location intercooler ? will it always be the best to go for a front mount intercooler or will a good stock location intercooler do the job as long as one has massive power ? hope you can help me guys, thank's :-)

I havn't upgraded my intercooler yet, but from what I understand, any aftermarket IC install will require some engine bay modification. You'll probably have an easier time with a SMIC over a FMIC, just because you may still be able to use the stock IC piping.

As for which intercooler is best for you, what are you planning on doing with the car? A large FMIC will drop intake temps quite well, but will block air flow to the radiator. A setup like that would be fine for street use, but I'd be wary about using it on the track.

A Stock mount probably won't drop intake temps as much since it's smaller, but it allows for optimal air flow to the radiator.

Rene if you want to make your life simple, and you plan to stay with the twins, and you want to keep your airpump. the PFS medium stockmount intercooler is a 30 minute, drop in installation, matching up perfectly. They are available used at pretty good prices.

The battle between stock mounts and front mounts is for the hardcore. Drag racers like the front mounts, some but not all, claim that it blocks the flow to the radiator and causes over heating, but Denmark ain't Texas in the Summer. A front mount would probably work fine but it usually requires some fabrication and it is usually not the intercooler of choice for extended track events.

The large stockmounts are pretty good too, Petitt offers a good deal. Last time I looked the large stockmount with all pipes and connectors was around $1,100.

My car runs pretty well for a car with just a medium stockmount. I have never had an overheating problem. The install is a snap.
