Steering Rack Boot damage

ok, i was giving my car an oil chage and realized my Rack Boots were damaged. i must of hit something and it cut them open. What kind of wear am i looking at here? wis that P/S fluid coming out of there? and if i dont get it fixed soon and keep driving what can potetially happen? i know i should get it fixed soon but again cash is hard to come by, i will as soon as i can though. What can you tell me guys.

You shouldn't have PS fluid coming out of them. They should have grease in there, though.

Short term, no big deal, but I would get some new boots. Crud gets in there and wears out the joints in there.

Question $ issues

Op,

Dale gave you some good advice.

I might be the bearer of bad news, but if you are having trouble paying for some steering rack boots, the rest of the FD is no cheaper...

lol, boots are only about $40 no biggy there. the installing is what will take me a while....when it comes to wheels and suspension of any kind, i hate doing it myself because i dont have a lift or my own garage. So it becomes a hassle, so i will probably end up paying some shop to put them on.

I would replace the boots asap. It won't leak fluid but eventually dirt and grime will get in there and wear out the rack. I have the Mazda SST to service the rack my shop is in NJ. It can be done without the tools, just a bit annoying. Check and see if anything is rubbing on the boot so you don't destroy the new one.
