Starting problems
I try to start my FD this morning and it didn't start. I thought it was the battery so I went to a shop so they can check it and it was bad so I got a new one. I try to restart the car after I installed the new battery and is making a clicking sound. My guess is the starter. Not sure if is that or not but also now when I put the key in d ignition I can hear the sound it makes when the key is in the ignition but when I go to start sometimes the car would not do anything or it will do like a puff sound or something like that.
Anyone have any idea of what it may be? |

First, Thanks for the link. Second sorry for the spelling, i wrote that from my Iphone and the auto-spell-corrector is not working fine because of spanish and english layout and also English is my second lenguage.
Thanks again |
Over the last week or so my car has began to crank slower and slower, now finally it dosent crank at all. (before this it cranked very fast and never had any trouble starting - hot or cold)
I got a new battery yesterday figuring it was just getting weak (stupid move). Turns out battery was fine. Gave the starter a few taps with a socket extension bar - car turned over very slowly and started. Im going to clean all the contacts tonight, and take it to bits and clean all the crap out of it. |
hurahh, my car starts strong again.
took starter motor to bits, cleaned the shit out with brake cleaner/petrol. cleaned/sanded the contacts. starts like new:icon_tup: |
Check battery cables and grounds. I just fixed two cars that had around 6 ohms resistance on the ground cable between the battery and the chassis. One was doing the same thing as what you are describing. When I replaced the cable not only did that problem clear, but the CEL went off.

That is what happened to me, changed the plugs and wires and it fixed the problem lol

I will remove the starter tomorow and do all that to see if it works. Let's see what happen.

My cars back to turning over slowly.
Took the other car to work today as the FD did start, but turned over very slowly so wasent keen to risk it and take my chances with the FD not starting when ready to go home. I cleaned out the starter about a month or two ago which worked great. I guess its time to change the brushes now though - one of them was completly worn down last time i looked in it. I ordered new brushes from mazda, part number is 24-753 - BRUSH, YOKE. They are cheap for anyone thinking about doing theirs. Less than $15 usd I would assume. (yes i know you can get universal/generic brushes but for the value, im not going to try to find something elsewhere that will fit) I should have them tomorrow and will probably do a little "how to" remove/dissasemble and recondition the FD starter motor if i can find a camera in time. Yea its pretty much the same as any starter but specific pics often help people attempt things themselves which they otherwise may not, and I cant currently find a FD starter rebuild thread. |
