Starting problems
Hi I have problems starting my rx7
Bit of history for you. Its a 1993 jap import rx7 twin turbo, I bought the car yesterday knowing that it doesnt start. This is a little qoute from the previous owner "it's been started several times over the last year. last time maybe november it floods itself quite a bit. we found we could start it by taking out the plugs and drying them and allowing all the fuel to evaporate frome the housing." I have tried to deflood today with no success but i may of been doing it wrong, remove plugs, Dry, turn car over 3 times then insert plugs and give it a go. I connect a battery up and the car will try and start but seems it just seems to fail to kick in. I connected jump leads onto the car via my friends vehicle as the battery was dying but when i tried starting it with jump leads attached the engine seemed to turn over very slowly. We disconnected the petrol hose, turned the ignition on and no fuel was being pumped through, Try to start it and fuel was pumping through Any other ideas or methods to use Most appreciated |
Did you pull the pump relay when you tried this? Also charge the battery over night and try again
|
We took out the egi fuse too, and also the fuel pump fuse. can you confirm to me what the setup of the spark plugs are. Is the leading at the top or bottom
Cheers |

Leading is top but if you think your plugs are confused I would assume that it would start regardless. did you do a compression test?
|
Well when i took the plugs out, leading plugs were at the bottom so i put them back the same way, shall i change these round and try? previous owner said he was playing around with plugs, would it not start if plugs were messed up. no compression test.
Thanks for your help |
Just do a compression test that way you know where you stand.
|
ok cool, cheers, i take it no compression means rebuild?
|
Correct. I just recommend it because you bought it and the guy sounds like he may be bluffing.
|
ok cheers, will be checking that today, i am a newbie to these engines as you can tell so any chance of you telling me how to perform a compression test even though the engine doesnt start.
I have accounted for a rebuild as got the car on the cheap |

just went through the deflood procedure. tried starting and was turning over fine, then almost kicked in then went back to turning over. when we checked the spark from the plugs, one of the spark plugs gave off a much stronger spark then the others. the other sparks were very little lightening bolts

Lol sorry my bad. I knew they were marked on the holes I'm just not around my 7 to look.
