Question Starter or ignition problem?

Im pretty sure its a problem with my starter but want to confirm before I start ordering parts. The car is very hard to start, I have to turn it 6 to 7 times for it to start and when it does I have to hold the key all the way to the right for 5 to 6 seconds. Its kind of hard to explain. My alarm has an automatic starter, and when I use that it just clicks and wont turn over...not sure if thats the starter or the wiring for the alarm. But its very hard for the car to turn over. So is this a problem with my starter and do I need a new one? If so I can go to advanced auto parts and order one for a rx7 correct? Or is it something else...My friend had this same problem with his 95 n/a supra, and we replaced the starter on his car and now it works fine. Anyone have the same problem, I mean it has only 43k miles one it so I would not expect it. Please any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad or loose connection at the battery. I would take the batt terminals off and check for 14 volts at the battery. Also clean the cable ends w/ wire brush. If that ok check the connections at the starter. When you said : I have to hold the key all the way to the right for 5 to 6 seconds it sounds like a bad ignition switch. Does the switch feel loose or the same as always?

Good luck Jerry

It feels the same always....Not loose at all...its not a problem with the batter nor its connections...I replaced the batter two weeks ago and rechecked my connections a few days ago because I thought that was it..no luck. Ive had it for about 2k miles and it was like that since I got it.

I would still check the voltage at the battery with a voltage gage. If thats ok then remove the starter and check it off the car, before you go buy anything.

I would also do the checks with the starter on the car, the two voltage checks from the factory manual at terminals B and S (or whatever they are) to make sure your starter's getting current. Let me know what you find out.
