SSAUTOCHROME is doing SMIC's now

Looking for a used SMIC. I found some ads for SSAUTOCHROME's SMIC.

Yeah, looks pretty bobo. No duct, no piping, and no beads on the inlet/outlet tubes to keep the hoses from popping off. You'd easily spend a bunch more money and time trying to get it to a useable point.

I agree. Take a look at how most of the intercooler isn't even ducted.

maybe they just dropped it in real quick to show the fitment. I'd hope they would give you a better ducts anyway

i remember seeing this and puking. i cant believe it made it back to these boards. :puke:

The IC itself looks decent, but it would NOT be fun fabricating custom pipes and ducting.

JaNusSolSumnus 05-15-05 10:58 PM

What concerns me is the poor shape of the endtanks, I imagine the quality control isnt very good if they couldnt make the lines all run together properly.... I dont know if I'd trust it beyond stock boost levels but maybe if you were staying pretty stock and just wanted the added security of a cool intake charge than it'd be pretty decent..... :/ You'd definately need a custom duct but a ASP duct would probably do the job.

I guess enough people bought that garbage manifolds and turbos off e-bay that they thought they could get a piece of the SMIC market. Yay for more crap.

steve0178 05-16-05 10:20 AM

crap? what are you guys talking about, didnt you see how shiny they are!

NewbernD 05-16-05 01:43 PM

The ad says 2.5" pipes.. guess they don't realize piping on the FD is 2.75"...

Montego 05-16-05 03:50 PM

I'm glad that other companies are branching out; You know that is actually a decent price (if the piping is actually correct; could be a typo).

It's just an IC all it does is cool air. It doesn't have any moving parts nor does it go under any type of mechanical load. Yet most IC's FOR OUR CARS are over 1k...

I believe that more often than not we get raped when it comes to prices for these cars. Just look at a brand new M2 CAI. $485 for a freaking box with 2 filters...

It'd be nice if someone (Kevin?) got their hands on this thing and flow tested it. The Spearco core used in the ASP and other high quality intercoolers is NOT cheap. Looking through Spearco's catalog, you can see that size can be very deceiving. Some of the biggest cores flow the least amount of cfm and support relatively little horsepower. On the flipside, there are some relatively small cores that are incredibly efficient.

It's incredible that the ssac knockoff can be made so cheap, but I have doubts about the quality and efficiency of the core they use.

I HATE ebay shit, but that manifold cracked because the turbo flange was cut off, turned, and welded back on. Then the dumbass stick welded OVER the original weld for some reason. If you go to the link above, there's a link in the thread to the original thread on that manifold. However, that same manifold cracked in another location, which was simply due to its low qaulity.
