If I put it in upside down to what it is the end tank with the curve in it will curve right up into the frame rail.
Kevin... I beleive that end tank design would indeed have something to do with pressure drop across the IC. You may be correct in that it is not as significant as the drop caused by the internal passageways, but I can't imagine that end tanks with sharp, abrupt end tanks vs. ones sculpted for optimum flow wouldn't cause a pressure drop. Thanks for the input though. I think it's time to pick the brains of my friends at work some more. Hopefully I'll get to work on it more this week. |
To clarify/expand on what Kevin stated: More, shorter passages for the air to flow offer less pressure drop than fewer, longer passages. While not ideal, for a few hundred bucks it has to be a vast improvement over stock. Do you have a PFC to read Air Intake Temps (AIT)? I would be curious to see the results.

I don't have a PFC. I'll wire up some thermocouples when I'm done though.
What kind of temperature drops do the stock, vs. aftermarket intercoolers offer? |
The temperature drop on that unit should be good, because of its length, more contact time for the charge air with the exchange media. The real number for concern with the unit is pressure drop or better yet CFM at X pressure drop because of its limited height.

Some updated pics. I got the FMIC situated where I want it. Now I just need to make brackets for it and the radiator, make some shrouding, and get new IC pipes made.

looks good.

So how exactly did you end up getting the IC to sit up higher? did you have to cut anything?

seriously, you should considder making a kit out of this, jsut fab up your brackets and make lots of them. make a documented list of what you did (instructions bascially) and sell it.
|
I did end up having to cut a bit. I'll post pics of what I cut when I get the chance.

This is awesome , I have an SRT-4 IC that's been sittin in my garage for the longest wondering if it would work on my FD. I am Definitely strapping up the IC ASAP.
Thanx. |
