Source for good high-temp turbo lock nuts

Hey guys -

For years I've used the high-temp lock nuts from ATP Turbo, and before that got the same nuts from Rotary Performance in Texas. They work very well, hold tight, and don't destroy the studs the way the stock Mazda locknuts do.

I ordered a bunch from ATP recently to restock my supply and found they have changed suppliers. The nuts are 15mm in size instead of 14mm and don't have the copper lock ring at the top, they use a crimped-in design similar to Mazda's design. Bleh. BTW, I HATE putting fasteners on my car that use some weird size like 15mm .

So, I did some googling around, found this -

http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/M10..._p/pm33629.htm

That's the ones I've been using, and CHEAPER than I've been paying! Pack of 25 nuts is $12 and change, which comes out to around .50 cents a nut. That's the right size - m10x1.5 with a 14mm hex.

I have been using these type of nuts for easily 10-15 years, starting back on my FC. They really work well, don't kill the studs, are removable and many times re-usable. These nuts can be used for most of the turbo studs, the downpipe studs, and the manifold to block studs. On some of the connections I recommend adding a flat washer to increase the clamping surface of the nut.

Enjoy . I'm ordering a pack of them and I don't even need them .

Dale,

Thanks once again for a great find. For those that dont know from the factory these nuts are around $8.00 or so a piece.

A decent alternative to using locking/crimp/stover nuts are nord-locks, they are great for everything. They are used in military apps. Expensive, but they will make sure your fasteners will never come off.

I've NEVER had problems with these coming off, and they're super simple to install and they come off nicely too. Don't really see a good reason to run something more hardcore, especially as the stock fasteners are mighty hard to get to.

Also, the same company has the exact plastic fasteners Mazda uses on the fender liners, the push-in pins with the Phillips head screw in the middle. They were also VERY inexpensive. Saw them listed on the home page.

yeah I recently checked out this site a little bit. They have a lot of random oddball stuff you find yourself needing to replace on an old car.

Thanks for the update Dale.

If I'm going to be removing my turbos that have the factory studs/nuts. Will I be able to reuse the studs or are chances quite good that the factory nuts will tear them up on removal? If so, is ATP still a viable option for replacement studs or do I need to sack up and pay for the factory parts?

I purchased the copper ones from pineapple racing for when I swap out my twins. They are $1/ea. These look like the same thing.

BTW my locknuts arrived Monday, I ordered them on Thursday. That's some quick damn shipping! I believe they shipped from Cali too, that's going to Florida.

They are exactly the ones I hoped, 14mm copper lock nuts. Get a bag!
