solution for tall drivers?
hey guys i just bought an fd the other day after searching for almost a year and after driving it i realized that its kinda uncomfortable after a while. my legs are a little bit too long. has anyone else encountered and solved this problem bc i cant go through life without owning an fd but would like to be more comfortable driving it. THANKS in advance for any help. and please no flaming even if i deserve it.

You'll most likely need to get an aftermarket seat to get you lower to the floorboard a little, and then an aftermarket smaller steering wheel with a spacer.
|
Small suggestion: You can remove the foot rest on the left side (and cover the fuses/wires). It frees up some extra space so your feet aren't so crowded in there...
|
my only problem with that is my interior is red and it would be hard to match. do you guys think there is anyway to move the rails back some? i just need about an inch to make it more comfortable.

i like that idea. thanks ehos

If you have a sunroof, open it and stick your head out!

lol. another very good idea. ill have to try that.

First off, the height thing has been documented to death. You can search for some info.
I'm 6'6", and fit just fine in my car. I have an R package with no sunroof - I'm uncomfortable in a car with a sunroof, but have been on many long car trips in my car with no fatigue. One thing that helped me bigtime was adjusting the clutch pedal for a shorter throw. That gave my left leg a lot more room - http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=14&mnu=5 Also, I typically drive with the seat one click up from full back. It's a little more cramped leg-wise, but my arm position is way better. Dale |
thanks a lot dale. ill be doing that very soon. i think that is going to help out greatly. also very nice explanation! thats why this is the best forum on the net!

After spending 2 days in my RX7 to bring it across the country I thought my legs would never stop hurting. My MBC mounted at my right knee wasnt helping. I think a steering wheel would do me the most good, providing more ability to adjust your leg position. Im skeptical of how much the seats will help.

Custom seat brackets that will lower you to the floor you will also need an after market seat. I am using a after market wheel with hub and spacer. Makes a big difference. I am 6'2
so I fit ok to begin with. John |
It's VERY hard to get an aftermarket seat lower than the stock seat. The stock seat is damn low to begin with.
BTW, cruise control is a big helper :). On long trips, it just kills my knee if I have to hold the gas pedal. But, this is the case on any car, even my Nissan van. Dale |
