Small filter

Ok, I've been working on my LIM gasket/vacuum hose replacement job for the second day now, and while removing the UIM, I had to take off a hose that was connected to the rear passengers side of the UIM. The other end connects to a line that goes from the passengers side firewall to a large black canister on the drivers side firewall. The line was rock hard and cracked, and it had to be destroyed to get it off. Inside, I found a small beige object, looks like some sort of valve or filter. I can post a pic if no one knows what it is. What is this line for, and can it be replaced with a silicone hose? Or should I just get a new one from the dealer?

Sounds like you're talking about the line that feeds air to the brake booster. The pill is a filter. I would not use silicone hose for that line.

Call Ray and ask for the Brake Booster Recall kit. It will come with two new hoses and the check valve already there. I think it's about $10.

They moved the check valve from the passenger side to the driver's side. The heat from the pre-cat/turbo area cause the valve to fail.

Don't think so, mine's a 94 and this line and filter were on the passengers side. Hose was fried solid, came apart in tiny brittle chunks.
