Slight overheating problem

Ive been driving my car more often lately and notice when cruising at highway speeds the car will starts getting warm... ever since i got my car tuned my fans kick on a 180. the car doesnt technically overheat, as soon as it gets to 210 it cools down to 180, then will start to climb back to 210 again..

the car has a turbo blanket, and wrapped downpipe, removed inner fenders, and a vented hood, it even running a distilled water, coolant, water wetter combination.

could this be because im not running a undertray? and air isnt getting pushed though my rad?

reason im not running a undertray is because my huge fmic

any insight guys?

a front mount intercooler on our cars is not the best fit. the can make the motor run hotter due to the longer tubes. and an under tray will also channel air in the engine compartment. Have you looked into a 99 spec undertray? it is designed differently and may work with your fmic

Fmic and lack of an undertray will cause big overheating issues. It will be even worse going up hill at low speeds or running hard.

I recently took a stock FD without undertray on a drive 210 on the highway w/o it. 185-190 on the highway with it. That is with ambient temps in the 50-60f range.

Highway cruising is the easiest condition for FDs. Low load on the engine, plenty of airflow.

^ Yup, my car is fairly stock and I have never seen temperature higher than 190 cruising on highway speed, except that one crazy hot summer day couple years ago where the ambient temperature was 100+ plus crazy humanity, that was the only time I saw 210 on my temp gauge cruising 70mph on the freeway.

Definitely need to put your undertray back on, what kind of FMIC are you running that interference with the undertray?

I'm pretty sure I can fit my undertray..when I bought the car it didn't have a undertray..plus now I have a 99spec bumper..im gonna try the stock undertray I just bought..but if that doesn't work ill buy the 99spec....

that aside...thinking I should swap out my fmic for a large smic? My car is single turbo if it makes a difference...what do you guys think...

Nothing wrong with a proper front mount setup. It is true that the car will run slightly warmer, but with proper airflow management it is not an issue. You definitely need an undertray.

Maybe consider the shine auto adjustable undertray as an option also.

I have a stock undertray with a plateless 99 spec (the mold used to create it was a real 99 spec and therefore the mounting points are identical). All you have to do is make new mounting holes on the undertray and that's it.

For engine cooling purposes a FMIC isn't doing the FD any favors. However, given that you aren't truly over heating I would tend to believe that you will be fine once the undertray is installed.
