They weren't DOT legal high and low beam units either, and aftermarket DOT lights (Hella 90mm, for example) need a considerable amount of space. Which driving lights did you use?

If you thought those were ugly you'd love my pry-bar-special fender lips right now : )

The lights were PIAA 910's with two H3 55W for low beams and 2 H3 110w for high beams.

The most important part though is it created room for me to put 9" long by 6" diameter cone air filters under the lights and with the turn signal removed had a direct fresh air source at the leading edge of the car.

...and I like the look better than the other aftermarket kits : P

BTW are any aftermarket kits DOT approved?

How about self taping screws?
I'd rather have rivets than screws, personally. Race cars use rivets for Lexan windows, so why not headlight covers? Besides, they'd sit flush and a screw wouldn't unless you used pan-heads, and then they'd stick up above the surface of the cover.

Gotta have your priorities straight.

The Hella 90mm headlights used in the Rotary Extreme kit are DOT legal, so his kit is the only one to my knowledge.
