I have been looking for silicone vacuum caps and have been unable to find any. The standard rubber caps aren't standing up well to the heat especially on the wastegate and turbo actuators. Does anyone know a manufacturer that makes them? I contacted hosetechniques and they said they are in the process of making some and they will be available in roughly a month. Anyone have a solution?

Theres a few threads on this, the cheap rubber caps from autozone will crack pretty quickly, so be sure you dont buy that crap.

I think the Spectre caps are vinyl. I have had the WQ and pre-spooler caped with the spectre caps for 2 years now I've taken them off a few times and checked for cracks and leaks but they have held up. When i first put them on i figured it would be short term solution but they seem to hold up pretty well.

I also found these while on McMaster. A barbed plug that would be cleaner then sticking a bolt in a silicone hose. They are good up to 200° F

hosetechniques sells em too. Not sure I'd trust anything from Harbor Freight in the engine bay. Not to ding on them, the stuff they sell is ok within limitations but its not quality that they are known for.

I've used McMaster-Carr's EPDM caps for YEARS, have extensively tested them, they work great. Hold up just fine to the heat, fit well, keep a good seal.

I'm glad Hose Techniques is looking to make silicone ones, that is way overdue. But, the EPDM ones work perfectly and are dirt cheap for a big bag of them. The smaller sized ones are a bit long, but I just trim them down, no prob there.

I was looking at the McMaster-carr site and saw they had 2 types of caps. In your post you mentioned the EPDM caps, but I saw they have a higher temp version available. Woudn't the high-temp ones be a better option?

Looks like the silicone (high-temp) versions only come in red. Those would stick out like a giraffe in a flock of sheep in some engine bays.

There's no need for the silicone caps, as I stated I have tested the EPDM caps for a LONG time and they work perfectly. Fit great, look good, work perfectly. And cheap. You're done there.

Thanks Dale, I'll stick with the EPDM caps. I didn't know if the silicone was a new option that they had that *could* be better, but I'll follow your advice.

 

What size caps are u guys ordering from McMaster car I'd like to get an assortment to cap most of the things in my bay

 

i got my silicone caps from a seller on ebay and they came from china. they are thick walled and very nice. they have been on my for a while now and still look brand new. i think i paid 16$ for 10 caps in all 3 sizes. 3,6,and10mm i think or whatever the vacuum line size is..

my caps are blue. neon blue.
