Should I sell my rx7?

So I'm walking to the parking lot, and I see a piece of paper under the wiper, and I'm thinking is this a ticket? No, it cant be. So I open it up, and it has this person's number written on it. I notice the area code, and I immediately recognize it as my old training command. I start thinking this guy is a nuke like me, and he has his bonus money. This could be legit.

So as I'm standing there, I notice a car driving by and pulls a quick turn in into the parking lot. I begin to think someone who just wants to talk about rx7 or just look at the car.

He's all excited and he's like I love the rx7. I've been looking forever, and here's one right now in front of me. I've been debating with my LPO to let me go on leave to go buy a rx7 in some other states. Did you see my note? So this is the guy who left the note. So he's in the same field as I am, and he just re-enlisted and I know exactly what that bonus is. Which means he can pay me the 20k no problem.

SHOULD I SELL? I already said NO to him 3 times, but he keeps asking me to sell it to him. Maybe I could look into a 135 after this. Or that YCM that's in the classifieds.

Oh by the way, you other members don't send me contact info for me to forward to him. Unless you have a silver car with black interior. That's the only color combo he wants.

sell it. I overpaid for my first 7 as well, out of the whole "I've got to have this car" mentality

then again, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. And your car looks clean from the pics at least, and it sounds like availability is limited in that area.

GoodfellaFD3S 09-07-10 07:41 PM

how many miles are on the car?

I'd keep it, unless you never want to own an FD after this one. Yours looks clean and unmolested, which is getting harder and harder to find as time goes by.

rx7rcer09 09-07-10 07:44 PM

i also over paid for mine, but that was in 08 before the market crash. fully built FD's were pulling stupid money but sometimes i regret it but i love my FD so at the end it was worth it to me.

1QWIK7 09-07-10 07:50 PM

Def sell it.

Nowadays you can get an FD for cheap cheap cheap with everything already done. Single turbo, rebuilt engine, good paint etc etc.

Dont really know your history on your exact car so i cant really comment on that.

But from the looks of it, its a reg SSM with wheels. Unless its bone stock otherwise with low mileage, then i would prob keep it.

But if it has a rebuilt and/or high mileage on the chassis, just sell it and get another FD later on down the road when they are even cheaper.

And yes the 135i is a MONSTER.

Next door neighbor just got one 2 weeks ago. White with the taupe interior. Sooooo nice. Sounds amazing too. I could hear it from inside the house and it still has the stock exhaust. Those engines are amazing.

ksu-chewie 09-07-10 08:08 PM

What wheels do you have?

MOBEONER 09-07-10 08:10 PM

THey look like BBS RG-R's but not sure.

The question is, what all is done to your car? I didn't see a mod list.

Yes, the exterior looks very clean.

As we all know, modifying our FD's can not only be very expensive, but time consuming. If your sitting on a fully built car, then I would reconsider. Especially with the prospects of purchasing another.

I bought my clean 94 for $10.5k.... After completing the suspension & wheel package, while now wrapping up my single turbo conversion, I have around $25k in the car....

I would not take $20k for it as it sits unfinished.

If you have always dreamed of CYM or another style FD, than I would say pursue it. But I would think long and hard. When you invest time & money in a car, it can not be replaced. Especially once you get it just the way YOU wanted it.

scamil87 09-07-10 08:46 PM

20k aer you kidding me? You could buy a decent 7 to use as a daily driver and a roller to work on for the tracks with that kinda money.

ludvig83 09-07-10 09:32 PM

I purchased the car with 60k miles on it. It currently has 67,102 miles on it. I lost compression on the original engine due to my own fault. Not having the powerfc to manage things. I recently purchased a reman from a member here that only had 700miles on it. It probably only has 1200 miles on it now. When the engine was being installed I purchased all the gaskets, hoses, engine harness(4k miles used), new water pump, thermostat, used coils with only 10k miles on them, and so on.

In terms of upgrades, I have the power fc, Greddy SMIC, SR motorsports intake, Greddy E01 boost controller, eibach springs and tokico illuminas, and autoexe chassis reinforcements underneath the car. The wheels are BBS RX series. They are of the same design as RGR wheels but are cast instead of forged. Thus making them weigh closer to 22-23lbs vs 18 and lower of the RGR wheels. Also I have the Sakebomb HID upgrade and B&M shifter. The KOYO N-flow is in the mail as we speak.

So in reply to some other forum members, no, its nowhere near where it can be in terms of expenses for future upgrades that I can do for it, since I'm still running stock twin in non sequential mode. One could say this could be a perfect time to walk away before the money pit gets deeper. Because I don't know if I can control myself enough to not continue spending money on this car lol.

Try this:

>Take a quarter
>Heads = sell
>Tails = keep
>When you flip it, your brain will "wish" for either heads or tails instinctively. Try to remember which one it is when the coin is in the air.
>Do the action corresponding to the one you "wished", not the one that the coin lands on. That's the thing you really want.

>Find the Joker, he will help you kill the Batman.

Juan 09-07-10 10:34 PM

Are you sure this guy doesnt want a nice white FD with black interior? :naughty:

For 20K I'll drive I'll out to the guy

Chris_V 09-07-10 10:40 PM

I'd sell then turn around and buy Charlies stock cym that he has for sale

live2drive15 09-07-10 10:46 PM

Don't do it you will hate yourself forever! Like me.

D3VIOUS-7- 09-07-10 11:49 PM

dont sell man, 20k is great money but if its paid for keep it. i sold mine in 06 for 20k after investing about 25-30k and thought i was getting a deal. in the long run here i sit 4 years later looking for another one. Lol....

MartinCYM 09-08-10 12:17 AM

sell it and start saving for an RX-9. That 16X engine that Mazda are developing for it looks to be mean as. :)

You will NEVER get an offer like this again.

DriftDreamzSS 09-08-10 07:02 AM

20k is a great price but I don't think you can compare an fd to a 135. I know it's super easy to have 400+whp and there are some real fast ones running time attack but they still seem like awkward looking little cars, can never compare to the lines of an fd, also the n54 is so boring compared to a 13b.

I agree with what driftdreamz said about the 135. My buddy has one and granted it's very nice being new and having a good amount of power. However, it just looks weird, like a smashed 3 series but not in a good way. The FD just flows so much better!

djseven 09-08-10 08:11 AM

Take it from a guy who has sold a lot of fds, when someone is hot on buying a car, sell it. You wont get that money again, you have about a $14k car and are being offered $20k.
