I have worked on project cars before, even if they didn't turn out the way I wanted. I have an IROC I have been working on for a while and its almost finished. It was the same as this FD it had no engine nor tranny, and now everything is on. Its most likely that my friend is going to get it seeing that he already has the front clip. Now we have to figure out what can be swaped. We dont have that much experience on FDs but we love cars in general. But as i said before thanks in posting your gus oppinions.

The main problem you are going to have is parts. Having parts and having "working parts" are two different things. If you are on a budget for the project as a whole, this may not be a good idea. FD parts aren't cheap, and aren't easy to just come across (i.e. you most likely aren't going to be able to run down to U-Wrench-It and get a starter if you need one).

Having a front clip is a good place to start. However, without knowing the condition of the front clip, what if the engine is already low on compression? Carbon locked? Oil deprived? Of course if you have a reliable compression test of the engine before it was pulled, then some of that won't matter.

Basically, you are going to have a LOT of unknowns. I'm not saying it's a bad project, I think it's a good shell for a project; but if you decide to do it, you need to go into it knowing exactly what you are getting into.... However, I'm not sure you know exactly what you will be getting into for this type of project.

Looks like a great candidate for a 2500 lb LS1 powered track car. Quick, there is a group buy going on right now for Jimlab Cobra cradles.

They killed Ole Yeller for less than what that owner has done to that car.

I don't see why everyone is telling him it's going to cost an insane ammount of money to replace a few interior/exterior items. You guys make it sound like the entire car has been parted out.

Interior:

Door panels + handle/window-mirror switches
Gauge cluster
Center console upper/lower
Rearview mirror ?
Glovebox latch ?

Someone was smart enough not to take the piece of shit factory BOSE wave setup. haha

Exterior:

Driver side fender
Passenger headlight cover
Driver headlight assembly + cover
Front indicators
Passenger mirror
Passenger door handle assembly

I would definitely try to get the price down, but that goes for pretty much any vehicle. I'm sure there are a few things not visible in the pictures that are broken/missing, but all in all I say go for it. Just remember two letters and one number.

LS1.

Looks like a very expensive parts car

Well looks more likely than not that I am going to get it, I am going to try to bring the price down a bit, and found out that he does have some of the interior part just didn't show them on the pics. Not to dissapoint some of you, but the LS1/LS6 does't sound like a bad idea. Atleast I won't have to worry about the relaibility problems. Well I wasn't realy woried about them as much to start out with because, it wouldn't be a daily driver for me anyways. Does any one know of any shops that do the swap around Southern CALI? And around how much? Or should I just use the "search" LOL Well thanks for evryone who has replied so far.
Oh yeah "ediddy22" makes me laugh LMAO

too much work in the first place

This is my car that is for sale. I bought this car for a axel nut to put the chromoly axels on my car. It would have been a lot cheaper to just buy one off a parts car....but there was a big race the next day...and I needed it to compete. Anyways...I was selling the car for $3500, but I did offer them the car for $3,000 since I have stripped the car from a few more parts to sell. I won't sell the car for lower than that....I will continue to sell parts off it until someone buys it. I would probably make double that price parting it out....just a lot of hassle.

Alfredo,

Since it looks like you are going to buy this one ... you might want to PM TurboJeff. He has beautifully restored at least one totalled FD that I know of and maybe more = he really knows about restoring FDs.

Kind of surprised he hasn't posted up but maybe he's busy with other things.

Anyway, ask him for the link to his pictures of the CYM that he restored from a totalled FD. Really really nice work!!!

Just a quick question....Do you really think CA is going to smog an LS1 converted RX-7? Why do you think Jay Leno doesn't have one?

Unless you know who to bribe it's not going to happen.

Check out TorqueCentral, there are already a several CA smog legal (w/o bribe) LS1 conversions and several more coming in the next couple of months.
