To sell or not to sell?

Don't flame me.....BUT I'm thinking of selling my FD:( for a 350Z, the 7 is just too much money to keep and I need something more reliable, and I like the Z's and I'm just going to fix that up instead. So, basically what do you guys think???

PS dont flame me....Ive had and worked on the 7 for years now, I just cant maintain it.

Montego 11-28-07 06:19 PM

I think you're a freaking loser. Don't let the door hit you on the way out

bryant 11-28-07 06:21 PM

sell it if you cant afford it.

Montego 11-28-07 06:21 PM

no seriously bro :)

hey man I don't blame you one bit. The seven is a cruel bitch most of the time. There's nothing wrong with replacing her with something that actually loves back.

Even if you can afford the repairs on the FD it still requires a lot of enthusiasm from the owner in order to keep it.

I just had a baby so I cant be spending on the 7 anymore and I hate seeing it just parked in the garage for weeks having problems.

What do you guys think of the Z's?

Mister Destiny 11-28-07 06:25 PM

Trading it for a Z is definitely a smart choice. As we all know, the 7 is a bitch to maintain - not just money-wise but time-wise as well. If you want to buy an rx-7 in the future, you can always do so.

Wow, you had me going there for a second!! I was like, thats a cold ass response!!!

SLOASFK 11-28-07 06:35 PM

there are better cars to get if you can't maintain the 7... Vette, S2k, MX-5

supraturbo1987 11-28-07 06:40 PM

I have my 7 and my wife and I are expecting our first in May. I don't owe anything on the car, so I thought about selling it and just banking the cash for now. My wife told me, "No way you are going to sell it! You had better keep it, because it is your only hobby and if you get rid of it, you will go nuts" So, I am keeping it. I bought it sept of 2006 and had to put a motor in it right away. Other than that, I need wheels, paint and suspension and I am happy with it...Of course, I always think about trading it for something else for reliability/expense reasons....I would go S2K or Mazdaspeed Miata if I did. By the way...I do know how you feel :)

If you cant afford it, sell it. Simple as that.

You're better off making payments (if you have/want to) on a newer car you can enjoy more that is more reliable with a warranty than going crazy on a car you cant have fun with thats gonna put a bigger hole in your wallet as time goes by.

Shadow Dee 11-28-07 06:50 PM

ALL valid points, As for the miata its too small for me and the s2k is too slow and dont like the body style too much as for the Vette I wouldnt mind that but I also have to pay for school and Ill be pushing it with the vette.

Trev, You have a great/smart woman!! Dont let her go:)

Shadow Dee, If you just had a kid, don't you think you need something that has rear seats at least??? To me it doesnt make sense to get rid of the FD to get a Z. Sure, its newer, but Z's are dime a dozen... I see 1,2,4,6... everyday! If kid is a reason, buy a 4 seater.. maybe G35? I bought an 8 4-5 months ago thinking near future I might have a kid and my daily coupe with 4 seats aren't going to work.... Also, don't be in myst about rotary cars being total shit! Any car you start modifying, you'll run into the whole reliability issue.. including Z.

I have a Audi S8 as the fam car, and dont get me wrong I LOVE the Rotary and will get another 7 in a few years. But for now as my fun toy car I was thinking of the Z.

Davin 11-28-07 08:11 PM

all that we ask when you sell it is to make sure it is going to good hands and not a father buying it for their 18 year old son

moconnor 11-28-07 08:50 PM

Financially it is not clear that a Z will save you any money. A new or recent Z is going to depreciate at the rate of 2-4K a year, whereas FDs barely depreciate at all. Are you spending that amount on maintenance per year?

Shadow Dee 11-28-07 09:01 PM

The car is paid off, its just maintenance and repairs again and again, plus the car has like 70k miles and with lots of mods and I know Im going to need a rebuild SOON so thats another big reason. I didnt mind at first about all the issues and such but I wont be having any time to work on it anymore. And NO WAY am I giving away my baby to some punk little kid lol..... I'll make sure its someone who knows rotarys!!!

Wild7 11-28-07 10:01 PM

In short, check my Sig and you'll see what I think about your choice.

But for the long version, here goes.

8 months I've owned this car and I still don't feel like I own a real sports car. Sure the car turns heads, but so did the other 14 Z's those people saw that day.

Like it was stated earlier, there a dime a dozen and theres still more driving off the lot every day.

Not to mention they keep coming out with more HP every few years making my 04 look like the runt of the litter...:icon_no2: And just wait till they up the HP to 330 like their planning on. Why is base HP important you say? Well simply because these cars take a lot of money to make them noticeably faster then they already are.

If I was you.. and of course I'm not.. but IF I was you, I would be looking at the STi's or Evo's. Great performers and they have back seats. Both these cars, with JUST a tune and minor mods, you will notice a big difference in power.

I'd of course go with the STi ;). Although i hate the interior of that car :puke:... Ricky Racer..
But MAN do those cars sound awesome. :worship:

This post certainly doesn't help my chances of selling the Z.. But I thought I'd share my experience and hope you don't make the same mistake I did.

Just my .02

Btw, I'll be losing roughly 7k on this car when I sell it and its basically stock so that doesn't factor in any mods I'd have invested in the car.
There's simply too many Zs out there to be picky on the selling price. And even with that loss margin, I haven't sold the car for a month now.. something to consider.

Well from the choices (sk2, mx5, rx8, evo, sti and the Z) the only ones I would consider is the sti and the Z, but a 4door car DOESNT seem like a sports car to me and the extra weight being a sedan will just be dead weight. Im surprised you guys dont like the Z's I actually see more sti's than z's where Im from.

GoodfellaFD3S 11-28-07 10:16 PM

350Z's are (a) as common as fat chicks at the all-you-can-eat buffet line, and (b) normally aspirated. No thanks.

The following info I got from motortrend.com

2008 Nissan 350Z Grand Touring Hatchback
Weights: curb weight (lbs) 3,404

2006 Nissan 350Z Track Hatchback
Weights: curb weight (lbs) 3,400

2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi
Weights: curb weight (lbs) 3,263

Be shocked..

going from a modified RX-7 to a Z, expecting the Z to be quick will prove to be very dissapointing to you. Don't let their 280hp fool you, they are dogs.
