rx7 having starting problem?

ok so just recently my 93 FD has been giving me some problems upon start up?
ill get in it and turn the key and i just get a "click" noise?
if i keep trying to turn it fast..it will eventually turn over..sometimes it takes awhile, sometimes it doesnt do it and starts up fine first try?
this has been going on for maybe a month and a half....
wondering what you guys think it is? maybe my starter?
any help would be apritiated(SP)

sounds like your starter...

Try cleaning the contacts on the starter motor before replacing it, though.

Generally the best source for OEM parts is Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. His prices are great, he stocks everything he sells and he ships fast.

888 533 3400 is the number for his department. Ask for Ray.

However, starters aren't really a cheap part no matter where you get it from. I'd reccomend taking the starter to be tested, just in case that's not actually the problem.

Another thing it could be is your battery. Are you sure you have a full charge?

Check your clutch switch. Thats what I had to replace when I had the same problem as you. The part only costs $10 and its and easy replacement, 5min job. Its located just above your clutch pedal (follow the clutch pedal up and you will see it). Its got a little plastic shaft that is spring loaded so when you press the clutch in it completes the circuit letting your car start. If that shaft doesn't come out then it won't let you start your car. It sounds like the spring inside might be worn or like in my case it was broken completely.

awesome great info..
thinking about it i think that could be it because the guy i bought the car from i guess he had wired that switch so you dont have to push in the clutch to start the car..
