Rx-7 TT woes...

That being said i'm also new to the rotary. I cannot fix this problem i'm having -- the rx-7 will not start. I've had new injectors in, compression's good, it just won't start. It does turn over. A local dealership told me that the 2nd port is dumping fuel. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

um, ports dont chanal fuel as far as I know. Are you sure they didnt say the secondary injectors were dumping fuel?

Please post mileage, modifications, recent repairs and when/how this started.

Also, check out the regional forums and see if there is a competent rotary specialist near you. Dealers and most mechanics in general just don't have a clue about a rotaries... Seen too many people get taken by shoddy mechanics trying to figure out a rotary.

It ran a little rought when i bought it, they chalked it up to old gas. It was 3 yrs old. I took it to a dealership, they cleaned everything out and told me i needed new injectors. Knowing better, I sent mine to RC Engineering where they were cleaned and flow-tested. They were not that clogged. (Car has 80K miles, downpipes, exhaust). Car did not run.

So I tried to get it running, checked the basics, fuses, hoses, etc. As I became more and more competant with the car, I undertook (slowly) the process of redoing the vacuum lines as they were getting old. I did break the IAC (idle controller) casing when i was reassambling, but that will not keep the car from starting, just idling, AND it didn't run before that. I did a compression test, all cylinders ok, but its dumping a TON of fuel in the chamber. Still won't start. I SAW SPARK but it seemed pretty weak. I ran the diagnostics test by jumpering the terminals and got some codes for the stuff on the upper intake but I had that stuff off to do the compression test. The motor is stock.

get a timing gun and check to see if your getting spark on all 4 wires while cranking.

if that works then you probably have a fuel problem

It sounds like the engine is flooded. Do a search on how to deal with a flooded engine. Is there a boost guage on the car when you bought it. If there was how much vacuum were you pulling. Also, what was your results of the compression tests. I think you are supposed to get 90-100 on all three sides of the rotor (correct me if I'm wrong). Sorry thats the best I can do.

Your plugs may be too soaked in fuel to start (happened to me long ago when I first bought my FD). Change your plugs - its easy & not expensive - it may do the trick.

since compression is good i'd say its flooded, check to see if your plugs have fuel on them or are soaked, also ya check for spark

Well theres your issue. You have a piston motor not a rotary... ;)

Sounds like it could be flooded. Try push starting it if its a manual, then just keep the revs at 2000 rpm+ until it stops puffing smoke out of the exhaust, and it should be good to go. Don't bother with the unflood procedures, they're a waste of time, just push start it. Its faster and easier.
