rtv for flywheel nut
hi,
can someone please let me know if i can use permatex ultra grey RTV on the rear nut? the fsm sayes only "sealer" , i cannot find many sealers here where i am. i also have some Gasgacinch Gasket Sealer . is it suitable? thanks!! |
Permatex grey RTV works just fine, I've used that numerous times for the job with zero problems.

is there anything to seal there? I used the right stuff but wonder what's the purpose? will anything leak if not sealed? or it it just to hold it in place like using locktite on top of the 300+ lbs-ft that its torqued to?

Mazda wants RTV, so it gets RTV :). I guess you could get a small oil seep there if you didn't put it on, that could get on the clutch and do weirdness.

guys thanks!
just put rtv and tight at torque spesificstions? i read on some rtv instractions that i must not tight imidietely so not to swuize all the stuff out but wsit a bit snd the tight st full. is the rtv works that way? thanks |
Looks like you typed that post on your phone :).
Many times RTV likes to set up a bit before being compressed. I've always installed immediately after applying the RTV, never had an issue. Don't get too wrapped up on the torque figure on the flywheel, you really just need to get it as tight as you possibly can so the flywheel presses on to the tapered end of the eccentric shaft. I usually use an impact gun and just keep hammering it until I can't see it move any more. I also put some blue Loctite on the threads for insurance. Never had a problem. Dale |

I watched the DIY-13B rebuild video yesterday, they don't use any sealant on the flywheel nut
