Reverse Switch/Sensor

Hey guys,

A few of my friends told me that my reverse lights aren't working and I did some investigating because my first suspicion was that it was botched after my AT to MT swap. It was working fine for a month or so, and all of a sudden stopped.

I got under the car to test my wiring and all seemed to be fine. I pulled the 2 pins out of the reverse switch harness in the tranny and put them together. the lights came on. cool. so i figure that when the car is in reverse the switch somehow grants continuity from one pin to the other, allowing the reverse lights to turn on.

Now I narrowed it down to the switch itself, since it couldn't be that the bulbs were out or I blew a fuse or something like that.

My question is: Is there any way to replace the reverse switch on the transmission? can i do it without pulling the transmission out, because I've pulled the transmission out of the car twice already and I don't really enjoy the process anymore. any advice would help.

Thanks!

you don't have to pull the transmission to get to the switch. it's easy to get to just jack up the car(or use a lift if you can) and you can use an open end wrench to take it off(forgot what size). disconnect the connector first. torque spec is 19-25 ft. ibs.

make sure to take off the right switch, there is a neutral switch and a 1-2 switch nearby. check the F1-27 in the repair manual and J-2 has a pic of where the switch is at.

Thanks! I'll be doing this as soon as I get my hands on a new switch.
